- Certificate in teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language
- Two to five years of current Chinese language teaching experience in a Western educational environment and familiarity with a High School educational system
- Experience with current best practices, current teaching materials, and current instructional strategies as well as recent professional growth activities
- Knowledge of ACTFL standards and proficiency guidelines preferred
- Communicate well with a diverse community, proficient writing skills in both Chinese and English
Specific Responsibilities
_Planning and Preparation _
- Maintain rigorous and appropriate learning expectations of all students at all times.
- Engage in department/team planning, curriculum review, budgeting, and other activities.
- Plan, revise, record, and follow units of work that provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences
- Participate and contribute to professional growth workshops and conferences in Chinese Language and Culture teaching areas inhouse and with Chinese teaching professionals worldwide
_Classroom Environment and Management _
- Provide a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
- Effectively manage each group of students while providing for a variety of learning styles, ability levels, and educational backgrounds
- Respond to student's social and emotional needs
- Model interpersonal skills, respectful relationships, and problemsolving, in order to provide a safe learning environment
_Instruction and Assessment _
- Individualize the content when necessary to meet each student's learning needs.
- Accurately and regularly assess student progress
- Continuously monitor student learning and make appropriate modifications of goals and strategies to meet students' needs
- Maintain uptodate and accurate records of student progress and attendance and classroom supplies and materials
- Engage parents and students in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communications about student progress and be available for student or parent meetings outside of school hours
_Professional Responsibilities _
- Interact cooperatively with other staff members in the development of cohesive curriculum materials and the establishment of instructional goals
- Cooperate with and participate in the planning and evaluation of the school program.
- Keep current in education through coursework, inservice programs, and by attending professional meetings and conferences
- Employ technology (computer, video, internet, etc) as appropriate to enhance instruction and ensure ongoing technological proficiency
- Engage with students in meaningful activities beyond the classroom which extend learning experiences for students (coaching, organizing field trips, sponsorship of clubs, events, or community service projects, etc)
Other Responsibilities
- Engage with school leader to improve one's own instructional skills
- Openly support and abide by all school policies and procedures
- Model the 'Core Values' in your interactions with the school community
- Liaise with the Principal, taking on tasks as assigned, including all school goals
