Caterpillar is on the lookout for a highly motivated and experienced team player to fill the role of an Assistant General Counsel in Singapore. This position is within the Legal – Financial Products Division and the wider Caterpillar Law, Security & Public Policy Group. Reporting to an Associate General Counsel based in the U.S., the successful candidate will handle a mix of responsibilities across various areas. Proficiency in English, a solid understanding of the Caterpillar business, and familiarity with the financial industry are crucial for this role.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead a dispersed team of legal professionals;
  • Handle drafting, reviewing, revising, negotiating, and offering guidance on commercial contracts;
  • Provide legal advice to management on various issues stemming from Caterpillar's interactions with third parties, covering commercial, disputes, regulatory, compliance, investigation, and other matters;
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts within Caterpillar;
  • Offer legal counseling and risk assessment based on a precise interpretation of the law in different scenarios;
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business to consult on high-risk matters requiring confidentiality;
  • Work independently while leveraging the support of fellow attorneys and senior leadership within the Law, Security & Public Policy Division;
  • Engage in day-to-day legal practice, identifying and resolving issues across different areas;
  • Coordinate with local external counsel for legal advice.

What You Have:

  • Proficiency in English, ability to maintain confidentiality, strong interpersonal skills, personal accountability, and a grasp of business operations to provide practical legal advice;
  • Post-qualification legal experience, admission to the bar in at least one jurisdiction, and authorization to practice as an in-house lawyer in Singapore;
  • Competency in Risk Management, Decision Making, Critical Thinking, Influencing, Negotiating, Organizational Leadership, and Resource Management.

  • Experience with Caterpillar and Financial Products;
  • Background supporting international business;
  • Flexibility to work on various legal matters such as transactions, litigation, financial regulatory issues, and corporate governance;
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a solutions-oriented approach;
  • Effective presentation skills and a composed, confident demeanor.
