The Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) is at the forefront of Singapore's scientific advancements through the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme. It aims to unite researchers, regulators, and industry experts to bolster Singapore's food safety science and R&D capabilities for a secure food supply and economic growth. FRESH is dedicated to conducting research and nurturing talent to enhance local food regulatory standards, facilitate the safe introduction of pioneering food products in Singapore, and promote internationally recognized food norms. Affiliated with the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme (SFS), key partners include the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), A*STAR, and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

The Senior Research Fellow in Food Toxicology will contribute to FRESH's investigations into food safety science and toxicology innovations, with a specific focus on novel foods. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about pioneering research in food microbiology, toxicology, -omics analytical platforms, and risk assessment. The incumbent will collaborate closely with the FRESH Director in developing toxicology-centric food safety risk assessments and comparative studies related to food digestion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulating and validating hypotheses
  • Utilizing cutting-edge analytical technology platforms to assess potential food ingredient toxicity
  • Analyzing and elucidating data
  • Preparing reports, reviews, and scholarly papers
  • Conducting risk assessments to evaluate potential negative impacts
  • Collaborating and exchanging knowledge and research insights with scientific and technical personnel
  • Supervising research advancement
  • Oversighting laboratory operations including procurement tracking
  • Communicating research endeavors across the FRESH, FST, and NTU food research community
  • Leading the enhancement of shared laboratory standard operating procedures and workflows

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field such as microbiology, chemistry, or food science and technology
  • Familiarity with next-generation risk assessment methodologies is beneficial
  • Previous hands-on experience in a food laboratory setting
  • Solid foundation in food-related research
  • Comfortable operating in a role that spans academic, industry, and regulatory spheres
