Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Officer to join the Division of Medical Oncology at National Cancer Centre Singapore.


You will be part of a clinical research team in Cancer Therapeutics Research Laboratory, focused on advancing cancer therapeutics through translational research. You will work closely with research fellows and clinicians to investigate therapeutic responses, discover biomarkers, and apply novel agents in co-clinical trials. You will be executing wet laboratory protocols including multi-dimensional profiling of tumor samples, establishing patient-derived cell cultures, and performing various molecular biology techniques.


Experienced lab members will provide training and guidance in areas such as flow cytometry, CyTOF, DNA/RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, and next-generation sequencing.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Understand how immune cells within the tumor microenvironment respond to various cancer treatments.

  • Flow cytometry, mass cytometry and protein assays for detailed profiling of immune cell populations.


2. Uncover the gene expression profile of immune cell responses to therapy

  • RNA-Seq to measure gene expression and ATAC-Seq to analyze chromatin accessibility and epigenetic changes.


3. Investigate how immune cells interact between each other and how these interactions influence the immune response within the tumor.

  • Study interactions between different immune cell types, such as macrophages, T cells and dendritic cells, within the tumor microenvironment.


4. Analyse experimental data to extract actionable insights.

  • Bioinformatics tools to analyse cytometry and sequencing data, generating comprehensive insights into immune cell behaviour.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master of Science degree in related technical discipline (biology, cell biology, biomedical science, biochemistry or molecular biology)
  • Experience working in a clinical or academic environment.
  • Strong technical/wet lab skills
  • Confocal imaging and molecular cloning skillsets are preferred.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Independent worker, possess initiative to complete tasks and projects assigned.
  • Highly motivated to learn new techniques and not afraid to ask if unsure.
  • Able to undertake independent research progressively.
