Overview of Job Role: As a psychologist, your role involves collaboration with Early Childhood (EC) educators, Early Intervention (EI) specialists, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), caregivers, and external stakeholders in the child’s macrosystem to ensure effective teamwork in addressing each child’s individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide therapy and psychological support customized to the emotional, social, and behavioural needs of individual children within a preschool setting.
- Implement interventions such as emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social skills training to enhance children’s social communication and responsiveness.
- Guide the trans-disciplinary team, including EC educators, EI educators, caregivers, and other AHPs, in developing and implementing therapy strategies tailored to each child's needs.
- Co-plan and co-deliver daily lessons with EC and EI educators to integrate therapeutic strategies into the classroom environment.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration among all parties involved in the child’s care, both within the preschool and with external stakeholders.
- Provide consultation to the trans-disciplinary team on the psychological, emotional, and behavioural aspects of child development.
- Conduct staff training for EC and EI educators to equip them with strategies for emotional, learning, and behavioural support.
- Offer consultation and training sessions to caregivers, guiding them in applying intervention strategies at home to support their child’s development.
- Conduct School Readiness Assessments (SRA) to facilitate appropriate post-Early Intervention (EI) placements.
- Perform Comprehensive Needs Assessments (CNA) to determine the psychological readiness of children for Primary 1 or for deferment requests.
- Provide leadership and guidance within the trans-disciplinary team, ensuring effective coordination and implementation of interventions.
- Supervise and mentor peers in the team, if applicable, to enhance the overall quality of care and support provided to children.
Job Requirements:
- Have at least a Master’s in Educational Psychology (or Clinical Psychology); AND
- Have a full-time registration and member of the National Psychological Society and a registered psychologist;
- Have relevant clinical experience with children
- Trained in administering psycho-educational assessment tools for children (both standardised and non-standardised tools
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and communicate effectively with educators, therapists, and families.
- Experience conducting psychological assessments and providing training to educators and caregivers is an advantage.
