We are seeking an innovative andtechnically skilled researcher to join our team, specializing inadaptive machining. is a key technology for generative andregenerative applications at the heart of ARTC?s remanufacturingand manufacturing research. We are looking for people with thepassion and drive to join us as part of the Remanufacturing ProcessTechnology (RPT) Group.

The RemanufacturingProcess Technology Group also consists of research teams in surfaceadditive and enhancement technology (e.g. Directed EnergyDeposition, cold spray), advanced machining technology andinnovative automation solutions for which individuals may alsoexplore.

JOBDESCRIPTION

The scope of the rolewill be to work on research in advancing machining technologies byintegrating adaptive techniques, leveraging knowledge in CNCmachining, CAD/CAM programming, software development, and basicArtificial Intelligence (AI) concepts. This role provides anexciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research aimedat improving efficiency, precision, and sustainability in machiningprocesses.

Responsibilities

-Conductresearch on adaptive machining techniques, including automateddecision-making systems, dynamic process adjustments, toolpathoptimization, scanning and data gathering technologies, and machineto machine communication.

-AlgorithmDevelopment: Design, develop, and implement algorithms for 3D dataanalysis for feature recognition and machining strategy selectionfor automatic tool path generation, and adaptive machining.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate thesealgorithms into existing machiningsystems.

-Data Analysis: Analyse large datasetsgenerated from machining operations to identify patterns,anomalies, and optimization opportunities. Develop predictivemodels to optimize machining parameters and improve overallefficiency.

-Prototype Development: Work closelywith engineering teams to build prototypes and proof-of-conceptsshowcasing the effectiveness of advanced machining applications.Conduct experiments to validate the performance and robustness ofdeveloped solutions.

-SustainabilityInitiatives: Explore ways to leverage on advanced machiningtechniques for sustainable machining practices, such as life cycleanalysis, energy efficiency optimization and wastereduction.

-Documentation and Reporting: Preparetechnical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicateresearch findings, project progress, and recommendations tostakeholders. Publish research papers in relevant journals andpresent findings at conferences andseminars.

-Technical Innovation Culture: Mentorand coach interns, fostering a culture of technical innovation andexcellence.

JOBREQUIREMENTS

-PhD in MechanicalEngineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, or arelated field

-At least 3 years of experience

-Prior experience of CNC machining, familiaritywith machining processes and equipment, knowledge of machinecommunication (OPC-UA, TCP/IP) isadvantageous.

-Proficiency in CAD/CAM/CAEsoftware, preferably in Siemens NX / Solidworks /PowerMill

-Proficiency and/or knowledge inprogramming languages such as Python, VB.Net, C#, C++, MatLab,etc.

-Preferably with experience working in anindustry-driven R&D environment

- Strongcommunication and excellent writingskills

-Ability to communicate, interact andwork professionally in a collaborative environment as a teamplayer

-Ability to work in a dynamic fast-pacedenvironment in an agile manner to adapt to fast changingrequirements of internal and externalstakeholders

-Ability to think critically and isproblem-solving oriented

-Ability to workeffectively and independently

-Ability todemonstrate high level of initiative to learn and adapt newtechnologies to stay relevant
