Recognizing the rapidadvancements in AI technologies and their expanding potential torevolutionize a broad spectrum of scientific domains, NRF islaunching the AI For Science (AI4S) funding initiative to leverageits research strengths, cutting-edge infrastructure, andinterdisciplinary expertise to accelerate fundamental discoveries.By uniting AI specialists with scientific domain experts, thisinitiative aims to develop AI methods and tools that not onlyenhance how research is conducted, but also propel Singapore'sposition at the forefront of global scientificinnovation.

The AI4S Programme Office will belocated at the CREATE campus, co-located with research labs, tofoster collaboration andco-creation.

Programme Director

Overview:
TheProgram Director is a senior leadership role responsible for thestrategic management and execution of the AI4S funding initiative.This individual will lead a dedicated programme office team of 4-6Programme Managers and Administrative Executives, ensuring that theinitiative's goals are achieved efficiently and effectively. TheDirector oversees all aspects of active programme management,stakeholder engagement, financial management, and compliance, andactively shapes programme direction through collaboration with theSteering Committee, Scientific Advisory Committee, andNRF.

KeyResponsibilities:
  • StrategicLeadership - Scientific /Technical:
    • Provide strategicoversight and direction for the programme & related workstreamstowards ambitious deliverables in transformative research, talentdevelopment, and research translation.
    • Driveprogrammatic coherence across individual projects and workstreamsaddressing critical and emerging problems inAI4S.
    • Make high-level decisions on programmedirection and recommend strategic course-corrections to theSteering Committee.
    • Proactively identifyopportunities to enhance programme impact, leveraginginterdependencies and synergies across multi-disciplinary projectteams and workstreams. Facilitate transfer of learnings acrossworkstreams.
  • Leadership-- Programme Administration &Operations:
    • Lead and developthe Programme Office team, including Programme Managers andAdministrative Executives.
    • Establish andimplement programme-wide policies and frameworks for collaboration,equipment sharing, IP protection, and safety/ethicalstandards.
    • Oversee pre-award and post-awardprocesses at a strategic level.
    • Direct theoverall lab and office operations of theprogramme.
    • Manage programme budget and resourceallocation.
  • StakeholderEngagement &Outreach:
    • Build and maintainhigh-level relationships with stakeholders across government,academia, and industry to support the overall programmeobjectives.
    • Work with supporting team toorganise Steering Committee and Scientific Advisory Committeemeetings for project reviews.
    • Represent theprogramme at senior leadership meetings and strategicdiscussions.
    • Oversee and organize outreachactivities.
  • StrategicPlanning &Innovation:
    • Track rapid AIdevelopments in academia and industry to inform the strategicdirection of the programme.
    • Recommend projectportfolios and research themes that capitalize on cutting-edge AItechnologies, fostering transformative breakthroughs in targetsciencedomains.


Qualifications& Experience:
  • PhD orequivalent advanced degree in science, engineering, or adjacentdisciplines, with strong expertise in AI-relatedresearch.
  • Minimum 13 years of experience inresearch leadership and programme managementroles.
  • Proven track record of leadinglarge-scale research initiatives and managing cross-functionalteams.
  • Strong strategic thinking anddecision-making capabilities.
  • Executive-levelstakeholder management and communicationskills.
  • Deep understanding of the researchlandscape and AIdevelopments.
