Roles & Responsibilities

Key Result Area

Engagement

  • To work directly with children to assess approaches to best support them.
  • Provide expert advice and training to teachers on areas of child development (including cognitive development), understanding of neurodiversity and neuro-inclusive practices that support students' access to learning and sociaI emotional development.
  • To work alongside a multidisciplinary team.
  • To liaise and work in partnership with parents, advising and supporting the parent community as a whole.
  • To liaise with external local providers and understand other provisions available to support signposting where necessary.
  • Fully support the school Safeguarding policy and know the reporting procedures to follow in case of a Child Protection issue.
  • When required, complete psychometric and qualitative screening assessments to inform provision and support for students.
  • Support the school's admissions process to ensure careful placement of students with the right level of support and provision, providing feedback to parents, leaders and teachers.
  • To implement and monitor policies and procedures across the school relating to the role, ensuring compliance with policy and procedures of governing bodies.
  • Contribute to the ILP process for identified students.
  • Run the Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA) through training, administration and supervision of teaching assistants.
  • Consult with the Deputy Heads Primary and Secondary and curriculum specialists to support and inform the development of curriculum areas and approaches such as PSHE.

Leading in Learning and Teaching

  • Support teachers through effective assessment of and intervention strategies for students identified through the referral process.
  • Contribute to the ILP process for students within Pathways 2 and 3. This may involve suggesting/monitoring targets for specific students.
  • Support the coordination and review integration between Pathway classes (7/2/3).
  • Maintain effective and regular communication with teachers, parents and other support staff, where appropriate, feeding back the outcome of assessments and reviews.
  • In collaboration with SENCO (primary and secondary) and Pathway Leaders, coordinate support for students transitioning between Pathways.
  • In collaboration with SENCO (primary and secondary), Pastoral Leads and school counsellors, identify whole school trends through referrals that impact on curriculum, designing initiatives that tackle concerns, e.g. bullying, social communication etc.
  • Deliver training and workshops for teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and students to build capacity and respond to identified support and development needs.

Operational Expertise & Resource Management

  • Liaise with DHT to produce an annual requisition and on-going requirements for the EducationaI Psychologist role.
  • Liaise with DHT and admissions to provide up to date information and appropriate forms for transfers between Pathways where appropriate.
  • Communicate new developments or research about SEN to all staff through• training and workshops.
  • Lead parent events and presentations in areas of specialism where required
  • Coordinate and chair MOT meetings and professionals meetings to support student transfer decisions.
  • To attend weekly Department/Pastoral meetings as appropriate and keep records of minutes and actions supporting the SENCO(s)/Pastoral Leads.
  • Support with evidence collection and assessments for Exam Access Arrangements.

• All staff are required to manage effective professional development as part of the school's commitment to invest in staff as the key resource in the organisation.
• Each individual must ensure that they meet their statutory responsibilities and Company policies with regard to Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and other relevant legislation.
• Educational Psychologist to maintain a record of supervision, registration to practice and other requirements appropriate to the country of qualification and practice.
• Appropriate registration to HCPC or AHPC regulatory body.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Doctorate qualification in Educational Psychology.
• School or local authority experience.
• Proven ability to develop good personal relationships within a team.
• High level of IT competence.
• Delivery of presentations and workshops to students, staff and parents.
