The Healthy Longevity Translational Research Program (HLTRP), under the auspices of the National University Health System (NUHS) Centre for Healthy Longevity and NUS Medicine, is at the forefront of investigating and understanding the complex facets of ageing. The Centre for Healthy Longevity (CHL) aims to become a global leader in geroscience research and translation, with a focus on translating groundbreaking research into practice to improve healthspan.

In tandem with our research goals, effective communication and promotion of our findings to the wider community and stakeholders is pivotal. This position offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between scientific research and public engagement, ensuring that our discoveries are shared widely to foster a greater understanding and to attract collaborative and funding opportunities.

This role is a blend of communication, marketing, and engagement, aimed at enhancing the visibility and impact of our research work.

Purpose of the Role: The Research Assistant (Communications) will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and the research teams to develop and execute communication and marketing strategies. The primary objective is to promote the research centre, its findings, and its significance to a broad spectrum of audiences including the public, potential collaborators, and funders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the PI and research teams to create and disseminate clear, engaging content that effectively communicates the research findings and the impact of our work.
  • Develop, implement, and manage communication plans and marketing campaigns to enhance the visibility and understanding of our research projects.
  • Manage and update the Centre’s website and social media platforms, ensuring they reflect current research projects and findings.
  • Prepare and distribute press releases, articles, and newsletters, and coordinate public relations activities.
  • Organize and promote events such as seminars, conferences, and public talks to facilitate knowledge sharing and networking.
  • Create and maintain a database of contacts including media, academic, industry, and community stakeholders.
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies to ensure goals are met and to inform future communications planning.
  • Assist in the development of visual materials like infographics, videos, and presentations to effectively convey complex research findings.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to foster collaborations and support for our research initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably within a research or academic setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex scientific information into accessible content.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing, social media management, and web content management.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Creative and innovative thinking, with a keen eye for design and detail.
