Senior Backend Software Engineer - Digital Bank at Shopee

The Engineering and Technology team is at the core of the Shopee platform development. The team is a group of engineers who build foundations for a long-lasting future, tackling large technical challenges as Shopee’s business scales.

Our digital banking services offer secure, stable, and user-friendly products, including savings, payments, loans, investments, and more, for individuals and enterprises. Our Digital Bank Technology teams build and operate platforms and systems that form the foundation of banking services.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will translate business requirements into effective digital banking products that directly serve end users. You will contribute to the overall design of our digital banking solutions and help develop a high-performance, secure, and scalable backend system.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of banking systems, ensuring their stability and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers to design and implement features that support and enhance banking systems.
  • Write high-quality, clean, and maintainable code, following engineering best practices to ensure long-term reliability and scalability.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing distributed Java systems in industries such as internet finance, e-commerce, payments, or fintech.
  • Proficient in commonly used programming languages, such as Golang, Python, C++, or Java.
  • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms, networking, operating systems, and other core computer science principles.
  • Familiar with databases and middleware technologies (e.g., Redis, Kafka).
  • Knowledgeable in Kubernetes (K8s) and microservice architectures.
  • Proficient in HTTP/TCP protocols and data formats such as XML, JSON, and Protocol Buffers.
  • Experience with distributed systems, performance tuning, handling massive concurrency, and implementing caching mechanisms.
  • Prior experience in the fintech domain is strongly preferred.
