Sr. Solution Architect

Overview

The Airspace Mobility Solutions (AMS) business, part of the Global Business Unit Land and Air Systems, provides leading edge Air Traffic Management (ATM), Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM), Security and Digital Aviation solutions for the Commercial and Defence sectors. AMS manages 11% of the world’s airspace and has revenues of over 500 million Euros worldwide, making it the global market leader in airspace management solutions. In Singapore, the focus is the delivery and support of two key ATM solutions: TopSKY-ATC(HE) and LORADS-III. This role will initially support the TopSKY-ATC (HE) product.

Role Description Summary

The role of Senior Solution Architect is a key role to define and deliver a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Solution. The role is responsible for defining, stabilising and maintaining the solution architecture for bids and projects across all lifecycle phases, and includes:

• Defining and proposing innovative technical solutions that meet customer requirements and are compliant with the business product/system technical strategy
• Analyzing the architectural and technical choices to ensure the best trade-off between customer requirements, technical solutions, cost and risk

As a Sr. Solution Architect, you are accountable for:

• Lead working groups conducting technical arbitration between System of System, Subsystems and transverse teams (Safety, Security, Human Factors) and the constraints they place on the system design.
• Interact with the customer on technical issues including evolutions to the solution baseline.
• Stabilise and maintain the solution architecture throughout its lifecycle in cooperation with the EDM and PDA.
• Ensure the solution architecture is optimised to satisfy the product requirements:
  • Define the key architectural drivers
  • Explore the solution space to define alternate candidate architectural concepts and perform related trade-offs ensuring all design alternatives are recorded and decisions justified
  • Perform early validation of the architecture including modelling and proof of concept activities to de-risk
• Develop Architectural Viewpoints to:
  • Define the system breakdown
  • Lead the interface definition and arbitrate technically between various contributors (internal or external)
  • Describe the system behaviour through functional flows and identify dependencies between system components
• Specify Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs) and support their validation throughout the lifecycle of the project
• Document architecture in required artefacts (e.g., Product Breakdown Structure and System of System Design Documentation)
• Stabilise and maintain the solution architecture throughout its lifecycle in cooperation with the Project Design Authority (PDA) and the Engineering Delivery Manager (EDM).
• Support the PDA and EDM in the approval of the main engineering reviews and deliverables.
• Review key Subsystems including Infrastructure, Platform and Security artefacts ensuring that constraints imposed by the system requirements on the design are understood and met.
• Ensure and demonstrate that the defined architecture meets the requirements considering:
  • Performance
  • Safety
  • Security
  • Human Factors
  • ILS
  • Contractually applicable legislation, rules and regulations including Environmental/HSE requirements and standards
• Lead the development of Architecture Policies, Processes and Procedures to ensure best practice.
• Provide mentoring and support to all personnel involved in architecture activities.

Key Knowledge and Experience

To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, IT or related discipline

Essential Experience

• 7+ years experience in similar positions on projects delivering complex software-centric real-time systems.
• Strong experience in the ATM Domain and Air Traffic Management standards, e.g., ICAO, Eurocontrol
• Demonstrated experience in the design of infrastructure and network architectures
• Demonstrated experience in the design of secure solution architectures in line with security standards and policies
• Experience with collective decisions and conflict resolutions
• Capability to manage various stakeholders having different objectives
• Proven capability to work in a multi-cultural environment and with a variety of international customers
• Aptitude to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary integrated team environment
• A positive attitude with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
• Sound judgement and independent decision-making capability where necessary

Desirable:

• Experience in Modelling Tools e.g., Capella, Enterprise Architect
• Experience in System Engineering tools e.g., DOORs, Jira
• Experience in working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
