Sr. Controls Design Engineer, Controls Design Engineer

Amazon Web Services is seeking a talented Controls Engineer to lead controls designs of Data Centers across the APAC portfolio. Candidates should share our customer obsession by providing innovative solutions to enhance reliability, and be able to explain complex systems in clear language. This role involves multi-million dollar designs that support AWS businesses and a diverse customer base, with emphasis on quality, speed, and cost.

You will lead a small international team of controls engineers and collaborate with internal groups as well as external groups including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, consultants and contractors. A significant level of travel (approximately 25%) to APAC and other regions is expected to manage and support project initiatives.

• Have deep knowledge of building operations, mechanical plant strategies, EPMS/BMS programming concepts, control diagrams, industrial HVAC, electrical line-ups, one line diagrams, and complex environmental and electrical concepts.
• Manage data center redundancy, mechanical failure strategies, energy and water conservation best practices and data reporting analytics.
• Operate in high security critical environments while maximizing productivity.
• Innovate new solutions to support initiatives, teams, and company goals.
• Lead and facilitate collaboration with multiple teams including construction, programmers, MEP/ACS engineers, and team managers to accomplish initiative goals.
• Lead external consultants to deliver project specifications to AWS standards and challenge them technically.
• Create, maintain, and disseminate specification documents pertaining to global projects.
• Create, maintain, and disseminate project-specific SOW documents including global design standards.
• Vendor selection, bid review, approval of equipment submittals, RFI support and coordination.
• Serve as central point of contact for multiple internal and external groups regarding EPMS/BMS controls standards; manage requests for information on new construction builds, existing site facilities support, and legacy site enhancements.
• Anticipate roadblocks and risks while providing escalation management.
• Collaborate with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate controls equipment.
• Prepare controls points lists, cable tray routing plans and schedules.
• Travel globally as needed to manage and support project initiatives (predominantly within APAC).

• Degree in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering field and 3+ years directly related to data center or mission critical facility design.
• 8+ years as design lead on projects with multiple teams or vendors to meet project requirements.
• Comprehensive understanding of various code requirements across the APAC region; fundamental understanding of critical electrical equipment, HVAC equipment, power system monitoring and transfer schemes.
• Experience with design, configuration, or servicing of one or more of the following products: Siemens Apogee, Honeywell Building Controls, Trend Building Controls, Schneider Electric PowerLogic/Struxureware, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk, Tridium Niagra, Eaton Foreseer, ABB Decathalon, Johnson Controls Metasys.
• Must be business proficient in English and able to work in a diverse team.

• Project management, organization and problem-solving skills with a drive for results and ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Experience with the use and programming of electrical power monitoring systems (Schneider, Eaton preferred).
• Experience with the use and programming of software in building management systems (Schneider, Siemens, Tridium, Trend preferred).
• Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities and carry new concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
• Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high-level review.
