Overview

The Process Designer is responsible for creating detailed designs and layouts for process systems, supporting engineering teams in the development and optimization of industrial processes. This role involves translating engineering concepts into practical designs, preparing detailed diagrams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The Process Designer collaborates with engineers to support process improvements, plant layouts, and efficient equipment arrangements.

Responsibilities
  • Process Design and Drafting: Develop detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment layouts. Work with process engineers to create accurate design documentation, including material balances, equipment specifications, and system schematics. Utilize CAD software and design tools to produce high-quality, accurate drawings and layouts.
  • Project Collaboration and Coordination: Coordinate with other design disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural) to ensure cohesive designs that meet project requirements. Support engineering teams by participating in project meetings, design reviews, and site visits when necessary. Assist in the creation of as-built documentation and work with project managers to ensure that designs align with budget, timeline, and client specifications.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards, codes, and safety regulations. Conduct self-checks and peer reviews on drawings and designs to maintain high-quality standards. Assist in troubleshooting design issues and making modifications based on client or regulatory feedback.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain organized records of design work, project changes, and revisions. Prepare documentation for design changes, project summaries, and technical reports as required. Assist with material take-offs and cost estimation by providing accurate design data and specifications.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Associate's degree in Engineering Design, CAD, or a related field; a Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in process design or drafting, preferably in (specific industry, e.g., oil and gas, chemical, manufacturing).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation) and process design tools.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes (e.g., ASME, API).
