The research fellow will be part of a team at the Continental-NTU corporate lab conducting research on customized functional adhesives and glue materials for automotive display panels, coating, lamination, and testing. The role involves developing new application-driven materials and production processes, primarily located at Nanyang Technological University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and establish chemical and material integration approaches for automotive-grade adhesives and bonding materials for display panels in collaboration with industry partners.
  • Screen, select, and synthesize automotive-grade adhesives such as gluing, optical bonding, and adhesive tapes.
  • Drive technology development focusing on chemical processes involved in product manufacturing.
  • Define appropriate material stacks, and evaluate chemical and mechanical properties of materials.
  • Perform chemical characterization and compatibility analysis of materials.
  • Evaluate and optimize mechanical characteristics.
  • Support qualification and failure analysis related to mechanical and chemical aspects.
  • Scout specific technologies (e.g., bonding and coating materials, functional foils), develop roadmaps, and benchmark solutions.
  • Conduct market scouting for adhesive solutions, maintain a material database, and recommend suitable solutions for projects.
  • Collaborate with partner institutions and other departments on display system materials evaluation and release.
  • Document projects and prepare technical reports.
  • Manage engineering tasks to meet scope and timelines.
Job Requirements
  • Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience or PhD with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge in chemistry, focusing on display materials, plastics, and die casting.
  • Understanding of chemical processes in display manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of adhesive materials and technologies.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional and international teams.
  • Hands-on experience with wet-bench processes and chemical handling.
  • Experience with material characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, XRD, microscopy, rheometry, DMA.
  • Experience in synthesizing and processing adhesives for display panels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation.
