Overview Operational Tax Analyst role at Capital Group. This description outlines the responsibilities and qualifications for the position. Responsibilities Performs and/or monitors market taxes related functions – withholding tax, capital gain tax, transaction tax. Oversees the reclaim of withholding taxes under Double Tax Treaties performed by the custodian bank to ensure that the required documentation is in place and all opportunities for tax relief are seized in a timely manner. Validates withholding tax and tax reclaim rates in the accounting system. Assists internal teams in solving tax reconciliation items. Establishes the annual production plan for periodic returns and coordinates the work of the custodian bank and the tax advisers. Reviews tax filings for European Court of Justice tax claims, Capital Gain Tax returns, appeals, Financial Transaction Tax declaration and reconciles data to the accounting statements to ensure accuracy and completeness. Researches and analyzes complex tax matters in collaboration with internal and external tax experts and recommends solutions (e.g. leveraging from a DTT relief in complex markets like India, China, South Korea; impacts of fund merger or fund liquidation). Monitors and reviews shareholder tax reporting compiled by external business partners, reviews and approves periodic shareholder tax figures and reporting to tax authorities to ensure methodology and data accuracy. Establishes the annual production plan for periodic reporting and coordinates the work of the custodian bank and the tax advisers; reconciles source data to accounting statements or shareholder register and performs reasonability checks. Researches and analyzes complex tax matters (e.g., bonds amortization, equalization figures, fund merger, fund liquidation, change in circumstances for a shareholder account) and recommends solutions; prepares tax publications to the tax center on the Funds’ website. Reviews dividend distribution and regulatory reporting calculations; compiles dividend calendars/planning and communicates to internal and external parties; ensures accuracy and timeliness of distributions as prepared by the administrative agent; prepares and disseminates distribution information to internal and external parties (including regulator-specific reporting). Participates in cross-departmental projects and team initiatives; collaborates with management to establish project plans, milestones and communicates updates to managers and stakeholders. Serves as subject matter expert in assigned areas; stays updated on market developments, identifies risks, prepares recommendations and participates in implementation planning with custodian banks and tax advisers; communicates with governance groups, boards and other departments as needed. Provides guidance on operational issues and technical questions to other departments; prepares ad hoc analyses/simulations to estimate impacts of regulation changes or product restructuring. Monitors external service providers; assesses vendor performance, reviews engagement letters/SLA with advisers, and manages budgets and invoices; acts as liaison between internal/external partners and outsourcing providers. Documents procedures and identifies process improvements; updates monitoring tools and escalates issues with proposed solutions; discusses recommendations with management and implements improvements. Participates in training of other associates and reviews production work; provides feedback on performance and development; serves as a positive role model. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Professional tax or similar qualification (accounting, legal) (e.g. tax lawyer or qualified accountant with tax specialization). Working knowledge of the investment management industry (Europe and Australia focus) as it relates to tax regulations, investment mandates, structures, operations, providers, competitive landscape, reporting and regulatory environment. Good accounting and numerical ability; comfortable with accounting principles, reports, adjustments, accruals and budgeting. In-depth knowledge of Excel with ability to apply to department operations. Analytical skills, problem solving ability, and a control mindset with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to lead and/or participate in projects and team initiatives; enjoy consulting with other departments and providing guidance on operational issues. Self-motivated, proactive team player with ownership of initiatives; strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities. Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment in routine matters, and ability to identify, assess, respond to, and escalate risks in day-to-day activities. Fluent written and spoken English.
