OverviewThe job holder is responsible for providing sterile and reusable surgical instruments and equipment by demonstrating competence in all aspects of sterile processing. This includes supervising receiving, sorting, decontamination, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of sterile items to operation theatres, SOC, in-patient wards, and procedural rooms. The role ensures the smooth functioning of the Theatre Sterile Supplies Unit.
Job Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities (80%)- Ensure the daily smooth functioning of the TSSU in receiving, sorting, decontaminating, inspecting, packing, sterilizing, storing, and distributing surgical items.
- Ensure staff practice the standards of loads and operate washer-disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers, and sterilizers.
- Perform and evaluate sterilizer test indicators.
- Perform inventory of all sterile linen and surgical consumables supplies.
- Issue sterile supplies to all supporting areas in a timely manner.
- Keep track of preventive maintenance (PM) of washer disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers, and sterilizers, ensuring all PM is up to date.
- Perform cleaning of the TSSU storage area.
- Demonstrate proper use and care of equipment.
- Report defective equipment and take appropriate action to repair or replace.
- Identify and notify the In-Charge of instruments that need repair or replacement.
- Liaise with OT nurses regarding the sets required for procedures.
- Facilitate team dynamics and the smooth running of activities within the TSSU.
- Communicate and hand over essential information and critical events to colleagues, in-charge personnel, and supervisors.
- Supervise and guide junior staff in their work.
- Participate in clinical and service quality activities.
- Demonstrate awareness of current healthcare practices.
- Assist in keeping instrument tracking data and systems up to date.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by Senior Instrument Technician, Instrument Specialist, and Assistant/Deputy Director (Nursing).
- Diploma in Engineering or relevant technical credentials. WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare Support (Sterilisation Services) is an advantage.
- One year of working experience as an Instrument Technical Assistant or relevant experience in CSSD/TSSU is preferred.
- Possess good interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Good command of written English and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
