Lead Analyst, Power

As the Lead Analyst for the APAC Power business, you are expected to spearhead our power modelling efforts, leveraging your extensive expertise in power markets and model development. You will build and maintain advanced analytical models used for trading and risk analysis. This position demands close cooperation with power traders across the globe to produce actionable insights, improve model robustness, and ensure alignment with trading strategies. You will join a diverse team where close cooperation with our commodity trading business units worldwide is essential. Additionally, your experience across various commodity sectors will be instrumental as we seek to strengthen these areas within our organisation. Key Responsibilities Market Research and Analysis: Gather, organise and interpret data related to energy production, consumption, pricing, and market trends covering multiple energy sources, including electricity, gas, and renewables. Market Forecasting: Develop and maintain sophisticated quantitative and statistical models to project future market trends and prices over short-term (day-ahead) and long-term (multi-year) horizons. Trading and Portfolio Support: Collaborate directly with energy traders and portfolio managers to deliver actionable, real-time market insights that guide trading decisions, support risk management, and optimise asset performance. Risk Management: Analyse and report on the risk exposures associated with trading and asset portfolios. Utilise metrics such as Value-at-Risk (VaR) and conduct stress tests, recommending suitable hedging strategies and ensuring adherence to risk limits. Strategic Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for senior management and other stakeholders to communicate findings and recommendations. Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and analyse the effects of evolving energy policies, market regulations, and environmental rules on market activities. System and Tool Development: Enhance the efficiency of trading systems and design new analytical tools and models using programming and data visualisation software. Requirements Minimum 5 years’ experience in analysing Japan and Australian power markets. Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, or a related discipline. Strong proficiency in programming languages for data analysis, particularly Python, with advanced skills in optimisation and the integration of artificial intelligence. Excellent quantitative, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities. Comprehensive knowledge of APAC energy markets, including supply and demand dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and market products such as swaps and futures. Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, capable of explaining complex market concepts to audiences ranging from traders to executives. #J-18808-Ljbffr
