Join to apply for the Senior Legal Counsel APAC role at Meltwater Overview Meltwater is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Senior Legal Counsel located in Shanghai, Hong Kong, or Singapore to join our team in APAC. You will provide legal guidance across Greater China and other APAC regions to support risk-based, commercial decisions. The role reports to the Head of Legal in APAC. In this role, you will advise on a broad range of commercial, corporate, and compliance matters, manage contractual negotiations, and ensure that legal risks are identified and mitigated effectively. You will quickly establish yourself as a trusted business partner within our global Legal team and collaborate with business leaders across functions in a fast-paced international environment. What You’ll Do Draft, review, and negotiate a diverse range of legal contracts with customers, partners, or vendors (e.g., subscription contracts, partner contracts, content licensing, marketing, data privacy agreements) for the APAC business and entities, with guidance from the broader legal team as needed. Partner with sales, deal desk, and product teams to structure agreements balancing legal risk and business objectives. Provide effective and strategic legal counsel to internal stakeholders in APAC (with a focus on Greater China and Hong Kong). Deliver proactive leadership and partnership to the business in Greater China and Hong Kong, addressing issues and opportunities with a deep understanding of strategy, key customers, and industry drivers. Monitor upcoming laws and regulations in Greater China and Hong Kong, participate in advocacy when relevant, and provide early strategic advice on changes. Support corporate governance matters in Hong Kong and Greater China (including managing governmental inquiries). Design and deliver legal training programs tailored to business needs and the legal environment. Manage external law firms as needed, including work and expenses. What You’ll Bring LL.B. from a leading university in China, Singapore, or Hong Kong. LL.M or JD from an accredited United States law school is a plus. Admitted to practice law with a current legal practitioner's certificate. Minimum of 6 years of professional legal experience, including in law firms and in-house roles. Experience supporting commercial transactions in a multinational SaaS company is required. Expertise in complex contract negotiations and managing commercial transactions and deals. Results-oriented with sound judgment and ability to balance business considerations while maintaining relationships. Experience in conflict resolution and managing difficult conversations with stakeholders and sellers. Ability to provide timely legal guidance in a fast-paced, high-volume transactional environment; willingness to tackle unfamiliar tasks. Quick learner capable of handling multiple projects independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin; Japanese language skills are a plus. High discretion, confidentiality, and integrity; strong prioritization and deadline management. Willingness to embrace a hybrid work schedule and occasional office presence.
