About the Role
The PCB Design Engineer position is a senior-level technical role responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and validation of advanced printed circuit boards (PCBs) for high-performance cellular communications and telecommunication systems. This role encompasses the full product lifecycle, from concept and schematic capture through simulation, layout, prototyping, and transition to mass production. The engineer will have a significant impact on the reliability, manufacturability, and compliance of mission-critical hardware, ensuring that all designs meet stringent industry, military, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex PCBs incorporating digital, analog, mixed-signal, and RF circuits for cellular base stations, Wi-Fi routers, modems, and related telecommunication devices.
- Manage all phases of the PCB design process, including requirements definition, schematic capture, simulation, layout oversight, production documentation, and release to manufacturing.
- Perform advanced signal integrity and power integrity simulations using industry-standard tools such as PSpice and HyperLynx SI to ensure optimal performance of high-speed interfaces (40Gbit/s+), impedance-controlled traces, and transmission lines.
- Oversee the selection of component packages, layer stackup definition, component placement, and routing feasibility studies for digital, analog, RF, and power conversion circuits.
- Ensure all designs adhere to IPC Class 3 standards for high-reliability electronic assemblies, as well as relevant military, thermal, and environmental requirements.
- Lead the bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting of new PCB designs, including design verification against specifications and generation of comprehensive verification reports.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, system, and firmware engineers, to ensure seamless integration and to proactively address potential layout and system-level issues.
- Participate in system-level integration and validation, ensuring that PCB designs function reliably as part of larger electronic assemblies.
- Drive continuous improvement in PCB design practices, manufacturability, assembly, and test processes, incorporating lessons learned and industry best practices.
- Maintain meticulous documentation throughout the design process, including design notes, test plans, and change logs, to support traceability and future design iterations.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to project priorities, exhibiting a strong sense of urgency, commitment, and ownership of deliverables.
- Support production teams during the transition to mass manufacturing, addressing DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFT (Design for Test) considerations.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and PCB designers as needed.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in PCB design for high-performance electronic systems, with a focus on telecommunications hardware.
- Advanced proficiency in PCB design tools, specifically Altium Designer (preferred), as well as Cadence Allegro and OrCAD, including schematic capture, layout, and library management.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing high-speed digital circuits, including FPGAs, DRAM, CPUs, and high-speed buses, with proven experience in signal integrity and power integrity analysis.
- Strong background in RF PCB layout, transmitter/receiver architecture, and mixed-signal design, including analog front-ends and power supply circuits (DC-DC converters, LDOs).
- In-depth knowledge of design for manufacturability, assembly, and test, with a track record of delivering IPC Class 3-compliant designs for high-reliability applications.
- Proficiency in simulation and verification tools such as PSpice and HyperLynx SI for pre-layout and post-layout analysis.
- Experience with telecommunication system designs, including cellular BTS, Wi-Fi routers, and modems, and familiarity with relevant industry standards and protocols.
- Familiarity with FPGA development environments and hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog) is considered an advantage.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills, with a keen attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (upper-intermediate or higher), with the ability to document and present technical information clearly.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude under pressure.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including second or night shifts when necessary to accelerate project timelines.
Qualifications
- Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
- Additional certifications in PCB design, RF engineering, or signal integrity analysis are advantageous.
- Ongoing professional development in emerging PCB technologies, telecommunication standards, and design methodologies is highly valued.
