Lead the Herpetology Team in all conservation efforts, both internally and in collaboration with national, regional, and international partners.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Herpetology Team in all conservation efforts, both internally and in collaboration with national, regional, and international partners.
- Develop and execute long-term strategic plans for herpetological research, conservation, and education.
- Oversee the care, maintenance, and enrichment of herpetology habitats, ensuring optimal health and welfare.
- Maintain up to date and accurate records in the Oerca program system to ensure quality of animal management and welfare are at or above industry standards.
- Implement and monitor scientific assessments and evaluations, maintaining up-to-date research databases.
- Facilitate continuous training and professional development for self and staff, fostering a culture of excellence in herpetological practices.
- Represent the facility at scientific conferences, workshops, and during accreditation processes, advocating for the institution’s mission and values.
- Collaborate with veterinary teams in conducting medical procedures, laboratory tests, and maintaining high standards of animal care.
- Stay current with the latest scientific literature and trends in herpetology, incorporating new knowledge into departmental practices.
- Ensure the maintenance and enhancement of herpetology habitats, creating and executing detailed husbandry plans.
- Contribute to public education initiatives by developing and delivering lectures, workshops, and other outreach activities focused on herpetology.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology, Aquaculture, Zoology, or a related field.
- 8 to 10 years of experience in herpetology or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role within a zoological or research institution.
- In-depth knowledge of habitat requirements.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering aspects of maintaining biological systems.
- Proven experience in animal acquisition, collection, and transportation.
- Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office software.
- Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
