About Us We are seeking an Engineering Director to drive development and deployment of novel applications, leveraging Google's generative AI models. This role focuses on rapidly developing new features, and working across partner teams to deliver solutions, and maximize impact for Google & top APAC customers. You will be instrumental in translating cutting-edge AI research into real-world products, and demonstrating the capabilities of latest-generation models. We are looking for an engineering director with a strong track record of shipping AI-powered software. The ideal candidate will be motivated by the opportunity to tackle challenging technical problems, will operate with significant autonomy, leading a team to drive technical direction and execution across industry verticals.

The Role: This role requires a strong machine learning foundation, and a passion for building and iterating on software products. The Engineering Director has a proven track record of delivering highly scalable, high-performance AI solutions, often leading complex technical initiatives from inception to launch. You'll collaborate closely with research & modeling teams, applied AI teams, and Google Cloud, to solve high-impact problems across industry verticals. Key responsibilities:

• Define and Champion Vision: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Software Engineers, fostering a high-performance culture and promoting technical excellence, while also defining and championing a compelling vision.
• Innovate and Deliver Solutions: Lead the design, development, and deployment of solutions, leveraging the latest advancements in LLMs and research to solve critical enterprise challenges.
• Oversee and guide the scaling of the Gemini Model serving stack to handle billions of requests per day and support millions of developers, ensuring the team identifies and resolves complex performance bottlenecks.
• Provide architectural oversight and strategic direction for significant components within the entire lifecycle of the Model serving stack, from research and internal testing to externalization
• Establish Research & Product Agenda: Establish an innovative product and research agenda, initiating and leading collaborations across Google and deliver the best solution experience to enterprise customers.

Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration: Drive collaboration across engineering, product management, GDM research, Cloud Applied AI teams to deliver integrated, cutting-edge enterprise user experiences that meet evolving needs and leverage the latest AI advancements.

About You
In order to set you up for success as a a Director of Engineering at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

• 15+ years in software engineering leadership roles, with a proven track record in building highly successful products or Platforms.
• Expertise in generative AI concepts (LLMs, fine tuning, distillation, function calling and orchestration etc.), development workflows, and use cases.
• Software engineering background and fluency in cloud-based development. Large-systems software design and development experience.
• Experience in fast-paced and high throughput software development setups.

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

• Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related disciplines
• Proven track record for leading healthy empowered teams with an execution mindset, healthy disregard for the impossible and a strong drive to excellence and large impact.
• In the details and experience working with customers. An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify patterns to emerging problems, and translate them into actionable solution strategies.
• Demonstrated curiosity and drive to learn and deliver significant impact, and a belief in overcoming any challenge to propel Google's leadership in the enterprise GenAI space.
