Brief Summary

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for proposing, budgeting, developing and implementing (networked) automation solutions to enhance Edmund Optics’s competitiveness in the highend optical components market. He/she provides technical guidance to the cadre of internal and external automation engineers, promoting consultation and collaboration. In addition, he/she works closely with internal and external partners, prepares decision papers and leads implementation projects.

Job Description

Devise, cost, design, develop, configure and implement mechanical/electronic/digital processes which will optimize efficiencies, increase yield and enhance Edmund Optic’s capabilities, from idea to pilot phase Provide guidance to engineers on Smart Automation and Industry matters and initiate and cultivate discussion Define process monitoring plans and ensure consistent and efficient operation Provide timely support the relevant OPs and QA teams on the running of processes through pilot phase and into production phase and create and maintain solution documentation Cooperate with internal and external partners to improve EO’s capabilities overall

Required Skills & Abilities

MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or other relevant Engineering field and at least 5 years of industry experience

Qualifications

Demonstrable experience setting up programmable logic controller (PLC), single-board computers and/or robotic or automated systems, preferably in an industrial environment Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) would be advantageous Effective communicator, both written and oral, and organizer with strong leadership skills Solid team player, strong interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment Analytical problem solving and attention to detail Highly self-driven and ability to work independently
