As part of the global research team, this role will focus on and contribute to the global freight market analysis, commodity research and strategy. Additionally, this role will also cover specific commodities relevant to the market analysis, depending on which vessel sizes the analyst is covering. The successful candidate works closely together with Oldendorff’s internal research team and its commercial desks to forecast and identify changes in freight and trade flows.
Essential Functions:
Conduct research on the dry bulk shipping sector and will report to the Senior Freight Analyst To gather, analyse and summarize relevant company, industry and economic information using a broad spectrum of appropriate source Determining the most appropriate and timely solution to meet the team’s needs with minimal guidance To provide synthesis, insight and practical implications within tight deadlines, via end products in the form of single exhibits, written summaries, basic fact packs and spreadsheets Serve as a thought partner to the commercial team, leveraging to company internal resources and external networks and to participate in the team’s problem-solving processSkill Requirements:
Strong problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills Excellent communication skills, with the right level of confidence and assertiveness to promote ideas both within the team and organization Inquisitive and investigative nature Able to grasp new concept fast Comfortable to work in a team and contribute toward common goal High level of initiative and independence Experience in market research report writing Comfortable working with large data sets Must be willing to work overseas for the first 6 monthsRequired / Preferred Education and Experience:
1 to 3 years’ experience as an Analyst either in the commodity or shipping space. Fresh graduates with strong academic achievements are encouraged to apply. Must hold a degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering or related field Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, charting), as well as in report writing Relevant background experience that would benefit incumbent in this role, preferred
