Deputy Director, Teaching As Collective Leadership

The Academy @ Teach For All’s Global Institute for Transforming Education

Position Summary 

In 2024, Teach For All will launch the Global Institute for Transforming Education. By enabling cross-border learning and sharing among education practitioners, we will catalyze a global shift toward teaching and learning that supports holistic student leadership development.

The Global Institute for Transforming Education will foster collective, cross-cultural learning about how to develop all students—in particular those in the most marginalized communities—as leaders of a more just, equitable, and sustainable future. We will connect, challenge, and inspire a diverse network of classroom, school, and system leaders around the world through its three complementary components: an Academy offering online courses and workshops, a Research Lab supporting practitioner research, and a Resource Hub that makes emerging insights and resources accessible to all.

To help advance and intended outcomes via this Global Institute, we are seeking a Deputy Director for the new Academy to help support academy faculty to embody Teaching as Collective Leadership in their online courses and workshops. The person in this role will focus on orienting, training and supporting faculty to design and facilitate exceptional, constructivist learning experiences for participants. This person will also advance Global Institute objectives by fostering productive partnerships with like-minded organizations in the United States and the UK.

About the Team 

The Deputy Director, Teaching as Collective Leadership will work closely with a small and diverse Academy leadership team. Managed by the Academy Director, the person in this role will also collaborate with the leadership team of the Global Institute and colleagues in the Research Lab and Resource Hub.

As the Deputy Director, Teaching As Collective Leadership at Teach For All’s Global Institute for Transforming Education, you will engage in the following and/or similar activities: 

Guide the design and implementation of our “virtual graduate school of education” to maximize the contributions of guest faculty Oversee the recruitment, selection, orientation, training and support of Academy faculty Co-facilitate a flagship course on fundamentals of teaching and learning for second year teachers Ensure course design and implementation embody the spirit of Teaching As Collective Leadership Foster productive learning and recruitment partnerships in the US and UK  Find, visit and build multimedia case studies of transformational classrooms across the Teach For All network to be used as virtual visits for our learning loops Evolving Teaching as Collective Leadership to better reflect what it takes to grow students as leaders of a better future Help develop actionable resources for teachers, teacher coaches, schools leaders, students, and others

As the ideal candidate, you will bring at least seven years of relevant experience including:: 

Demonstrated commitment to reimagine education to support holistic student leadership outcomes Proven ability to facilitate discovery-oriented learning experiences with with both children and adults A robust network of relationships and connections among like-minded organizations in the US and/or the UK Strong written and verbal communications in English  Self-starter with superior project management skills who is able to manage across multiple streams of work; thrives in a high-energy, entrepreneurial, and constantly evolving environment  Strong relationship management skills; able to work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues globally, including a high volume of virtual engagement (i.e., conference calls, social media, virtual collaboration tools) and regular calls during non-traditional working hours Experience with ways of working that center diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, and fosters the leadership of all staff members Exemplifies Teach For All’s and a commitment to : Reflects a sense of possibility in mindset and vision Believes in the value of being locally rooted and globally informed Drives toward constant learning and improvement Convinced of the necessity of diversity and inclusiveness in our work Believes in the interdependence between us and our partners in solving this global problem

Additional desirable skills/experiences (not required):

Familiarity with the Teach For All network and Teaching As Collective Leadership  Experience leading students to strong outcomes in ways that embody Teaching As Collective Leadership Experience building virtual institutions and/or learning experiences

Compensation

Salary for this position is competitive and dependent on country of hire and prior work experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Travel and Hours

All work is delivered virtually. Travel is expected to comprise 10-20% of the work in this role . Given that we work across different time zones, some non-traditional hours for early or later calls are an expectation of this role.
