Senior Psychologist

The Senior Psychologist is chiefly responsible for providing psychological assessment and psychotherapy/psychological interventions. In addition, this role provides consultations and guidance to and works with the team of professionals within and external to NTU to mobilize support for these students so that they are able to effectively navigate their academic and career pathways.
Responsibilities:
Counselling and case management and consultation
Conduct psychological assessment of students’ needs, abilities and functioning using a variety of methods, including psychometric measures/tests, questionnaires, clinical interviews, and behaviour analyses and interpret assessment findings to guide interventions.
Review literature on recent developments in age-appropriate interventions for university students with complex/severe mental health issues.
Provide evidence-based psychotherapy/psychological interventions.
Provide consultation and guidance to team of professionals, colleagues, family members, and peers on concerns they have regarding a student and provide case management support, especially for students at-risk.
Document and maintain proper clinical records in accordance with policies and procedures of the University Counselling Centre.
Psychological critical incident management
Provide consultation and psychological critical incident management to suicidal or severely distressed students and staff, and where needed, in getting immediate treatment for such students/staff through working closely with various stakeholders (e.g. Support and Care Team, Associate/Assistant Chairs and Student Care Managers of Schools, Faculty-in-Residence, Campus Security, Office of Human Resource, NIE Wellness Centre, etc.).
Community approach to case management
Work collaboratively with and make recommendations to schools, student service offices, Halls of Residence, etc. to facilitate a campus community approach towards managing students with complex/severe mental health issues.
Work in inter-disciplinary teams (e.g. Educational/Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist, Counsellor) to provide evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions/treatment to students with complex/severe mental health issues and/or co-morbid issues (e.g. Special Education Needs (SEN) and mental health issues).
Liaise with other professionals (e.g. psychiatrists, doctors) and Social Service Agencies to mobilise community resources to provide care and support for the students.
Refer and/or recommend external service interventions (e.g. family therapy) as part of the student’s overall treatment plan.
Lead in case discussions with school and role model the consultation process for new psychologists/counsellors.
Support Lead Psychologist to develop and conduct training on a range of mental health issues, SEN and evidence-based intervention strategies for staff.
Strategic support in University Counselling Centre (UCC)/University Wellbeing Office (UWO)
Evaluate and/or develop service provisions for students and provide clinical updates/feedback to UCC.
Provide strategic support to team lead and Head, UCC in the overall provision of UCC services.
Collate and analyse statistical data and/or related reports to Head, UCC as and when required.
Develop/support initiatives and programmes under UCC and/or UWO.
Perform additional duties/projects as assigned by Head, UCC or Director, UWO
Administrative support in University Counselling Centre (UCC)
Support the Lead Psychologist in the learning and development of UCC staff, including mentoring of psychologists and counsellors.
Support the Lead Psychologist to implement and monitor psychologists’ and/or counsellors’ learning and development plan.
Requirements:
Graduate qualification in Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology with experience in psychological assessment.
Full membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., Singapore Psychological Society or international equivalent) is advantageous.
6-8 years of professional experience in a variety of treatment modals (e.g. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy).
4-6 years of professional experience in working with clients with complex cases of risk (e.g. emotional dysregulation, self-harm/suicidality/trauma) and mental health disorders (e.g. Eating Disorders, Generalised Anxiety Disorders, clinical depression), including dual diagnosis.
Experience in working with young adults, preferable in a university setting, is desirable.
Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team and conducting Continual Professional Development training for staff is advantageous.
Experience in operations management, preferable in education or counselling environment.
Strong attention to details and commitment to maintaining accuracy in all operational aspects.
Strong organisational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Possess professional values that are in line with the Code of Ethics of SAC or SPS.
Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
Proficient in IT skills (e.g. Microsoft 365, use of Apps, appointment booking systems, case management systems)
