Tooling Technician

**Job Objectives/Job Summary**:
As a Machine Technician is responsible for efficient and effective operation of the LSR production area while adhering to customer part quality requirements. He/she should be detail oriented and able to stay focused on delicate tasks while adhering to the highest standards of safety.

**Responsibilities/Duties**:

- Proactively identifies safety issues and resolves them according to HLN’s EHS policies.
- Must be flexible during startup of LSR department.
- Troubleshoots basic equipment issues. Drives preventative maintenance on the equipment and tooling to prevent down time and wear.
- Follows all quality Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Cross trains other team members to run the equipment and promotes LSR knowledge throughout the organization.
- Adheres to the production schedule. Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality and service goals.
- Works with superior to develop tooling and systems to optimize machine efficiency and reduce downstream manual processes.
- Actively engages in HLN’s lean culture by constantly looking for continuous improvement and innovation. Engages in 5S and maintains a clean environment.
- Machine requires extensive cleaning daily. Must be willing and able to clean 3+ hours per day using Mineral Spirits and Rubbing Alcohol.
- Sets up and operates injection-molding machines to cast products from thermoplastic materials: Installs dies on machine, according to work order specifications, using clamps, bolts, and handtools.
- Sets machine controls, regulating molding temperature, volume of plastic, molding pressure and time, according to knowledge of plastics and molding procedures.
- Dumps premixed plastic powders or pellets into hopper, and starts machine.
- Pulls lever to close dies and inject plastic into dies to cast part.
- Removes finished product from dies, using handtools.
- Trims excess material from part, using knife.
- May mix thermoplastic materials and coloring pigments in mixing machine, according to formula.
- May grind scrap plastic into powder for reuse.
- Provide assistance to assemble, test and maintain company equipment
- Analyze root causes of equipment failures and propose corrective actions.
- Provide 24×7 support to troubleshoot the equipment problems.
- Perform regular inspections to identify and correct equipment malfunctions, repairs and replacements.
- Read and understand technical manuals for equipment operations and maintenances.
- Adhere to company policies and safety regulations.
- Develop preventive maintenance procedures to avoid equipment failures.
- Maintain the facility clean, safe and organized.
- Clean and lubricate equipment on regular basis.
- Provide assistance and job trainings to workers when needed.
- Maintain documentation of equipment maintenance and repair procedures for future reference procedures.
- Maintain inventory control of equipment tools and parts.
- Propose improvements to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
- Develop cost reduction initiatives by effective utilization of materials and resources.
- Any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by HOD

**Job Specifications/Requirements**:
**_a) _**Qualifications**
- A diploma in engineering with mechanical specialty with at least three years experience in handling machine and machine parts or
- Secondary qualification with relevant working experience

**_b) _**Experience**
- Minimum 3 years working experience
- Must exhibit outstanding ability to learn and comprehend the fundamentals of the functioning of machines

**_c) _**Skills & Knowledge**
- Attention to detail
- Ability to illustrate general maintenance requisite and simple procedures for operation of various types of pump including reciprocating, centrifugal, vane etc.
- Ability to read and understand part prints and perform basic quality measurements
- Must be able to effectively read charts and machine
- data.

**_d) _**Personal Qualities**
- Effectively communicates both written and orally. Works well cross functionally and strives for premium internal and external customer service.
- Master in troubleshooting, good problem solving, analyzing and multi-tasking skills
- Able to work independently
