We are now seeking an experienced **Scent Technology and Innovation (ST&I) Technical Director** to lead and support the growth of our Scent technical team in Asia.
**Your Focus**
The Scent Technology and Innovation (ST&I) Technical Director is responsible for leading, developing and implementing the innovation strategy in the region, to deliver and commercialize consumer preferred Fragrance solutions driving differentiation and building competitive advantage.
You will manage a pluridisciplinary technical team, located in our different Creative Centers in Asia, to support the growth of our business in the region and drive innovation on a global scale for our Bar Soap and Powder Detergent categories. In this ST&I leadership role, you will partner with our Perfumers, Scent Design Managers, Commercial, R&D and Operations teams as well as, with other support function departments such as Regulatory affairs, Legal or CS&I. You will also interact with global cross categories ST&I Senior leaders and develop partnerships on technology projects with key strategic customers.
The role will directly report to the Regional Innovation Creation & Design Director based in Singapore, with a dotted reporting line to the US based VP, Scent Technology and Innovation.
**How you will Lead and Contribute**
SUPPORT THE REGIONAL STRATEGY
- Work with the Regional GM, Creative Center Managers and Scent Design Group Directors to develop and execute the strategy.
- Lead the execution of strategic technical innovations to support must win / mission critical projects for the region.
- Project management and governance: effectively allocate resources, manage C2S, etc.
INNOVATION MANAGEMENT
- Define and develop new technologies to drive consumer benefits at relevant touchpoints that address the needs of our customers for the Personal Wash and Powder Detergent categories.
- Partner with Global ST&I Category Directors and R&D to define Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for new technologies and to work through the category team to assess these new technologies against the KPI’s providing relevant feedback.
- Drive IP Strategy for Fragrance cross categories to maximize IFF competitive position.
- Manage and support innovation programs for cross categories.
- Drive a consumer-driven approach to Scent Innovation.
GO TO MARKET
- Partner with Commercial teams to build presentations/pitches to customers for visits and core listings.
- Determine technology strategy and innovation pipeline and priorities for key customers.
- Develop Innovation partnership programs with IFF key customers maximizing business opportunities.
- Business travel and customer visits.
TALENT MANAGEMENT
- Lead and inspire a team of ST&I Scientists and Managers.
- Identify and develop talent to elevate the technical and innovation knowledge as well as leadership competencies of the organization.
- Build global network sharing and leveraging knowledge and best practices, especially for the Personal Wash and Powder Detergent categories.
- Propose and support training, individual talent development and mobility plan.
COMMUNICATION & TEAMWORK
- Foster a collaborative mindset and build a relationship of trust with other functions (Perfumers, Scent Design Managers, Marketing, Commercial, etc) to enrich and accelerate the creative process.
- Maximize cross-fertilization within the region and with other Creative Centers.
**Job Requirements**:
**What you will need to be successful**
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in the Fragrance, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Cosmetics, Consumer goods and/or Industrial Food industry in an International environment.
- Master’s or PhD in Science & Technology, Chemistry or any other related discipline.
- Ability to develop and implement regional strategies.
- Proven record of managing an innovation project portfolio.
- Olfactive capabilities and technical know-how.
- Build and inspire a team working with multiple functions.
- Experience presenting to Global internal and external customer.
- Ability to coach and mentor team members.
- Proven track record of managing multiple G2M innovation and commercialization teams.
- Strong innovation mindset, formulation and technical development skills.
- Excellent leadership and team building capabilities.
- High level of business acumen.
- Passionate about fragrance and product design.
- Excellent English communication both written/verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Global mindset and strong team player with influencing skills.
- Customer and market understanding.
