Resident Engineer

**Responsibilities**:
a. To provide wherever necessary standing supervision for the construction of civil and building structural works in accordance to Project specifications, drawings and Building Control Act, and submit quarterly reports of supervision to the Architect and Consultants for conveyance to the Building Control Division.

b. To be overall in charge, manage and control a team of site staff or resident technical officers in their supervision of other works like architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, landscaping and all other relating to the Project. To conduct regular as well as random checks on the duties of the resident technical officers and requiring them to submit their scrutiny before issuing such reports to the Owners’ Project Manager, Architects and Consultants.

c. To provide administrative control on site staff or resident technical officers, institute and maintain discipline, punctuality, keep daily records of staff attendance, keep records and process the staff leave entitlement, sick leave, in-camp training and other matters the site staff discipline and welfare.

d. As and when instructed by the Architect and Engineer, assist them to approve any valid overtime requisitions from the Contractor and either personally attend to supervise the works or allocate the necessary resident technical officers to assist in the supervision of the works.

e. To assist the Architect and Engineer in all aspects relating to the construction of the Project, keeping and submitting record of works, materials, equipment at site, monitoring Contractor’s schedules, observe and comply with safety, and submitting all reports to the Owner’s Project Manager, Architects and Engineer. Attend all meetings relating to the Project and other duties as directed by the Architect, Consultant and the Owner’s Project Manager from time to time.

f. To provide leadership in the management of the site office, its cleanliness, proper filing systems, seating arrangement, maintaining office security and take charge of office equipment assign to the Project.

g. To provide full support and assistance, as and when directed by the Architect, Engineer or Owner’s Project Manager in ensuring that works are being carried out in accordance with the prescribed or from time to time newly prescribed Building Regulations.

h. Keep detailed record on site and prepare progress reports at regular intervals.

i. Assist the Engineer to verify the design of temporary works by the Main Contractor against actual conditions on site and recommend modification to suit if necessary.

j. Review constantly the condition of the existing carriageway during excavation and construction of the pile caps and ground beams. Give instant instruction to the Main Contractor as and when necessary during the course of the work with the view to maintain stability of these existing structures.

k. Ensure the working procedure to comply with the agreed method and recommend modification to the procedure, if necessary, to solve any on site problems.

l. Give direction to the Main Contractor for any testing or investigation work required.

m. Initiate requests for variations to the work and ensure that sufficient information is provided to decide that a proposed variation should be sanctioned.

n. Inspect the completed work and prepare defect lists if necessary.

o. Ensure that the items in the defect lists are rectified when required and carry out such further inspections as necessary to ensure that the work is completed.

p. To see that the finished works are free from defects tested and are properly functioning order.

q. Attend site meetings, progress meetings, design/technical meetings and meetings with statutory bodies as required.

r. To report regularly to the Engineer/Architect & Owner’s Project Manager on all the above matters.

s. To maintain records and perform other duties as instructed by the Engineer.

t. You are to check the brackets for the windows and specification of all materials in accordance with approved drawings, including other specialist items in this job, for example: balustrades and structural steel works, which also require your supervision.
