**Asia Chief Risk Officer
**Role Description - Overview
The Asia Chief Risk Officer (CRO) will play a key role in supporting the continued expansion of retail and commercial businesses in Asia-Pacific, a key region in the strategic growth plans of Sompo International. The Asian CRO will be responsible for promoting and monitoring the resilience of the business while acting as a key partner and liaison to the Regional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and wider Asian leadership team.

Reporting directly to the SIH Group CRO, with a dotted line to the Regional CEO, the Asia CRO will be responsible for managing the local CROs / Head of Risk in each of the [nine] Asian-Pacific operating entities and will be responsible for developing the broader risk team and risk talent within the region.

**Specific responsibilities**
- Oversee the development and maintenance of risk management and reporting practices across all operating entities in the region, ensuring these are consistent with the size and profile of each entity, in accordance with local regulation, and aligned with applicable Sompo International risk policy, standard and practices.
- Facilitate the necessary training and development of staff, as well as the provision of guidelines, tools and ongoing advice to support the development of risk governance and risk management practices across Asia.
- With respect to operational risk, support an open risk culture across the region with an emphasis on learning and continuous improvement. This includes training and support on incident management and broader initiatives / reviews to facilitate governance and control improvement within the region.
- Chair the _Asian CRO Forums _, ensuring there is fluid and timely communication and discussion of key issues and material risks across the region while using the forum also as a mechanism to identify opportunities to support risk management practices across Asia. The Asian CRO will also attend the _SIH CRO Panel _to provide an update on key business developments and other significant risk matters in the region.
- In conjunction with the entity CRO’s in each country, oversee the agenda and materials for the local Risk Committees, including a review of any key recommendations (e.g., proposed changes to risk appetite).
- Provide counsel to the Regional CEO as required, including support on key initiatives and business development strategy in the region, guidance on key regulatory issues, and wider advice on any risk governance matters in the region. More generally, support the CEO with the identification and resolution of key issues as well as the broader information flow of key risk related matters
- Act as a fulcrum between the CEO and wider risk function to enable specific support as necessary (e.g., targeted operational risk or exposure reviews, strategic analysis).

**Qualifications, Skills and Experience**:

- Bachelor’s degree with successful completion of a higher degree or professional qualification in actuarial (FIA or FCAS), finance (CFA) or accounting (CA);
- At least 10 years of experience in property/casualty (re)insurance companies or consulting forms with demonstrated success in leadership positions in actuarial or risk;
- Superior technical background in risk management with experience implementing risk management frameworks.
