In fulfilling this mission, ABS leads research and develops guidance and requirements focused on the safety of **implementing new technology **in the marine and offshore environment.
As an Electrical Engineer you will be actively engaged in **driving industry-leading technology activities **associated with the electrification and hybridization of the marine and offshore industries.
The Senior/Principal Engineer, Technology, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards, is responsible for the activities related to assigned programs and projects.
**What You Will Do**:
- **Support ABS technical community **on queries regarding electrical systems.
- **Maintain and demonstrate thought leadership **through technical publications and presentations.
**Participate in industrial committees **to development and enhance technical capabilities
**What You Will Need**:
Education and Experience
- **Minimum of eight (8) years relevant engineering experience **in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, university, or classification society
- **Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering **or other related discipline; M.S. is preferred.
Required/Preferred Education Requirements
- Professional or chartered engineer license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- **Knowledge of AC and DC power generation **(such as fuel cells and dual-fuel engine-generator sets) **and power distribution systems **.
- **Knowledge of power system analysis **such as short circuit calculation, protection coordination studies, power flow, harmonics analysis and arc flash analysis.
- **Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies **for energy storage such as batteries, supercapacitors and flywheels.
- **Knowledge of design, installation, and testing of electrical equipment **such as electric motors, variable frequency drives, transformers, switchgear and generator controls.
- **Knowledge of dynamic positioning systems **and their electrical and control requirements.
- **Strong communicator **with excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent command of the English language.
- Demonstrated ability to **work well with others **.
- Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
