DESIGNATION : Primary Teaching Assistant (Physical Education)

RESPONSIBILITIES

**General**
- Ensure the welfare and wellbeing of students and assist the class teacher(s) in providing a high quality educational programme.
- To support and assist the lead/class teacher and carry out duties as reasonable assigned by them.
- Ensure teaching standards meet the varying learning and social needs of all students.
- To be flexible and adjust to the needs of the school, actively contributing to its development and growth.
- Identify and work with targeted individuals and groups in a supportive and caring manner.
- Coordinate with the lead/class teacher with regards assessment and reporting, providing constructive oral and written feedback to students
- Interact on a professional level with colleagues and seek to establish and maintain productive relationships in order to promote mutual understanding of the individual needs of students.
- Set a good example to the students they teach in their personal presentation and conduct.
- Evaluate their own teaching critically and use this to improve their effectiveness.

**Classroom**
- Use teaching methods and strategies that will engage students and stimulate intellectual curiosity including the use of effective questioning, clear presentation and good use of resources.
- Set high expectations for students’ behaviour through the development of positive and productive relationships.
- Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the class/lead teachers.
- Share supervision of children in the school during break periods.
- To have responsibility for the primary library.

**Physical Education**
- To assist with teaching students specialist Physical Education lessons in the Primary school.
- To assist the lead teacher to ensure the effective teaching and management of Physical Education classes, groups and individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained and the best use is made of teaching time.
- Become familiar with Physical Education planning documents, including teaching objectives and sequences of lessons appropriate to the educational needs of the students in each class.
- Prepare appropriate resources for lessons and help with administrative tasks such as bus bookings.
- Accompanying teachers and students on educational visits/sports fixtures.
- Setting up and clearing away equipment during lessons and clubs.
- Provide or assist in the running of ECAs as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education - Teaching (English), Diploma in Education or its equivalent.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work well independently as well as within a team
