We are always looking for new ways to do things faster, better, cheaper. To move out of our comfort zones, even beyond banking, so that we can better serve the needs of customers with solutions that address their challenges.
Empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and business is ING’s purpose and the main driver for ING Labs. We focus on increasing the pace of innovation to serve changing customer needs. The Labs focus is on thinking beyond traditional banking to develop new services to take to market.
We will support you in building an initiative by pitching for funding to ING’s Innovation Fund. We tackle the complex and messy process of building solutions by breaking them down into different phases with key validation points. For this we use ING’s innovation methodology, PACE, which builds on Lean Startup, Design Thinking, and Agile. Progress is assessed by the Innovation Fund, and you pitch for your proposed next steps to be funded.
You will be working in the ING Labs Singapore office and/ or remotely in a very international and dynamic environment.
**Role & responsibilities**
Your role as a Corporate Venture Builder is to identify and validate needs in the market and to build ventures around technological products or services that address those needs. The initiative you build will result in a strategically relevant asset for ING, which may manifest as a spin-in or a spin-out.
What we do every day:
- We research innovation in sectors and industries in lending, trade, and regulatory compliance
- We build initiatives around a product or service that benefits ING or ING’s clients based on problems we have identified at ING
- We begin by conducting discoveries based on problems we have identified to find initiatives worth building
- We work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of the problems our target customers are facing
- We are constantly learning through our efforts by being systematic in the way we log our learnings to ensure that each venture building effort is smarter and more relevant
- We research and map out competitors and the market landscape
- We identify and assess gaps, trends, and opportunities associated with the initiatives we build
- We develop the vision and strategy for each initiative and connect it to ING strategy and market potential
- We develop a strong understanding of the ecosystems that present opportunities for us
- We challenge the data and every assumption as we validate initiatives
- We build a commercial pipeline based on what we know about the target customers
- We test different distribution channels and partnerships
- We develop monetization strategies
- We validate potential customer segments by conducting interviews and surveys
- We plan an approach, present progress at stage gates, and pitch for funding to ING’s Innovation Fund
**About you**
You are driven, entrepreneurial, and have 10 or more years of experience. Your career has focused on sales, relationship management, product building, business building, or building technology (architecture or technical).
- You have either technical or business domain expertise
- You understand what it means to design, build, or sell B2B tech solutions
- You are hands-on in solving problems through diligently conducting experiments
- You are data driven, evidence-based, and obsessed with finding the right solution for your clients
- You are people centric and a team player who is open to learning and not afraid to take it on and make it happen
- You embrace unknowns and are not afraid to fail. You are resilient, learn from mistakes and bounce back with positivity
- You seek guidance when needed, are open to feedback and refine your approach along the way. Ideas are great, but execution is king. You are hands-on in validating the problem you are solving through experiments and are creative in getting the proof you need
- You demonstrate deep customer empathy and a solution-oriented mindset.
- You demonstrate strong cross-functional partnership and stakeholder management skills.
- You demonstrate strong collaboration and communication skills
- You are driven whilst remaining respectful, curious, and humble
- You have a risk aware mindset and understand the importance of compliance in a regulated financial services institution
Having one or more of the traits below will better position you for success:
- You have experience or interest in trade and/or financial crime (fraud)
- You have led, or been a part of, at least two complex projects and have used an approved project management method, in a corporate or MNC environment
- You have more than 5 years’ experience in client facing roles with at least 5 B2B or B2C clients being the main person responsible for the overall business relationship
- You ventured a few times into an untouched segment
