[What the role is]

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is Singapore’s central bank and integrated financial regulator.

As central bank, MAS promotes sustained, non-inflationary economic growth through the conduct of monetary policy and close macroeconomic surveillance and analysis. It manages Singapore’s exchange rate, official foreign reserves, and liquidity in the banking sector.

[What you will be working on]

You will be a member of a team responsible for the detection of abusive, manipulative or illegal trading practices in the capital markets, particularly for breaches of market misconduct offences under the Securities and Futures Act (SFA).

You will monitor trading activities on the exchanges in Singapore and conduct surveillance of corporate announcements and articles concerning public listed companies and the markets in general, to identify potential market misconduct. You will conduct preliminary inquiries to determine appropriate follow-up action.

Additionally, you will also provide continuous market surveillance support for on-going investigations. You will be expected to keep abreast of regulatory and market structure changes that may affect the scope of existing surveillance practices and/or necessitate the development of new surveillance methodologies and effective surveillance tools.

You can expect to be challenged intellectually and professionally as you work closely with investigators, legal officers and other enforcement agencies. You will gain insight into how capital markets participants operate, and the rules and regulations at play, as you play an important role in MAS' enhanced enforcement regime under the SFA.

[What are we looking for]
- Demonstrate knowledge of more than one financial market product, e.g. securities products, derivatives, OTC products, fixed income, FX, etc.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of financial markets operations and basic trading strategies, experience with trading and market surveillance technologies including the design, coding and implementation of alerts for the monitoring of market activities and detection of market abuses preferred
- Strong analytical, communication and writing skills
- Enthusiastic, confident and motivated
- Innovative and pragmatic in providing workable solutions to problems
- Able to manage multiple concurrent work projects and handle case work with minimum supervision
- Related experience in transaction-based surveillance, trade desk compliance, or investigations of violations of exchange rules and securities laws preferred but not essential
- Prior experience as a broker/dealer is a plus
