**What the role is**

The Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) is one of the oldest tropical botanical gardens and one of only three botanic gardens in the world inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has an extensive living and herbarium collection, including large living collections of orchids, palms, cycads, gingers and plants of human cultural significance, along with extensive herbarium collections from Singapore, Malaysia and other parts of Southeast Asia.

**What you will be working on**
- You will conduct taxonomic research on the plants of Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia, with a focus on
- _Sapotaceae_ and other families of trees and woody plants.- To contribute revisions of plant families for the Flora of Singapore especially on woody plants.-
- To collect herbarium specimens and living material through fieldwork in Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia.-
- To document and publish the results from research as both scholarly and semi-popular accounts that would bring credit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens and the National Parks Board.-
- Coordinate SBG’s role and input data for the World Flora Online-
- To network and form collaborations within the region that would enhance the botanical research and development capabilities of the Singapore Botanic Gardens.- You are also expected to develop research networks with other researchers in the field, engage (directly or in collaboration) in biosystematic studies (e.g., phylogenetic, biogeographic, etc.), and contribute to research that provides data for plant conservation (such as by providing IUCN conservation assessments)

**What we are looking for**- MSc in Plant Sciences/Life Sciences with specialisation in plant taxonomy / plant systematics-
- Experience in using herbarium and living materials in research. This should include a good knowledge of botanical nomenclature and an understanding of molecular systematics.-
- Fieldwork experience, including botanical collecting, especially in the Southeast Asian region.-
- Experience in writing scientific papers and reviews, flora accounts and grant proposals.-
- Ability to develop a wide personal network, engage local collaborators from the Southeast Asian region, and engage in capacity-building activities.-
- Independent, with a positive attitude and a good team player.
