Senior / Staff Nurse working the Centre of Interventional Psychiatry (CIP) and other outpatient clinics
**Overview**
The outpatient Centre of Interventional Psychiatry provides services to private and subsidised patients with psychiatric conditions for patients of all age groups.
**Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)**
- Demonstrate an understanding of psychiatric disease processes in relation to patients who attend the clinic for treatment.
- To ensure that all procedures scheduled for patients are attended to and to oversee daily smooth operation of the clinic.
- To coordinate with various departments/ clinics / wards on requests for neuromodulation procedures as ordered by doctors.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the delivery of patient care when performing neuromodulation services, electrocardiogram (ECG), sedation/ antipsychotic injections on patients at the clinic.
- Demonstrate skill, knowledge and ability in management of psychiatric patients including but not limited to violent patients on physical restraints, verbally aggressive or physically violent patients or relatives, close observation and safe patient care for suicidal patients, patient care during sedation used on patients, epileptic patients including fall risk prevention.
- Carry out checks on suicidal patients to eliminate any possibility of possessing dangerous objects while waiting for consultation or admission.
- To perform psychological assessments using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) on patients.
- To maintain proper and economical usage of consumables and supplies, and carry out regular stock checks on sedation medication kits.
- To ensure that stock inventory/ level on supplies and consumables are adequately maintained and replenished, as well as proper storage and record of inventory.
- To be responsible for all service maintenance records of equipment, including but not limited to the maintenance and proper use and care of equipment, including to heck and calibrate medical equipment and instruments to ensure that they are in good working condition.
- Coordinate and facilitate safe transfer of psychiatric patients for admission and/or to the Institute of Mental Health for continual patient care.
- Provide effective counseling and education to patients/ caregivers, attend to patients' feedback/ enquiries, perform service recovery, and provide information as appropriate.
- Have a working knowledge of the policy on Workplace Violence / Staff Abuse by patients, their family members and/or visitors.
- Communicates and discusses patients’ progress and response to treatment with physicians, nursing and allied health colleagues involved in the patient care.
- Follows-up to ensure continuity of patient care and treatment plans
- Delivers safe and competent nursing care
- Participates actively in physicians’ rounds
- Prepares and assists physicians with the procedures done on patient
- Collaborates and co-operates with physicians and other health-care providers in the smooth delivery of patient care and services
- Demonstrates clinical skills, knowledge and critical thinking in the delivery of patient care
- Displays compassion, a positive and caring attitude towards patients as well as to internal and external clients
- Provides patient/family information and education on disease prevention, health education and rehabilitation techniques
- Demonstrates proper use and care of equipment
- Demonstrates proper and economical usage of consumables and supplies
- Deliver evidenced-based care of patients with complex clinical conditions.
- Manage transition of care coordination within and between teams and across settings for complex cases
- Support nurse-led initiative for healthcare transformation
- Participates/Lead in improving clinical care and processes
- Use informatics, innovation and technology to manage nursing productivity and resource
- Enable staff to assume responsibilities for patient care with delegation, support and coaching
- Maintain a conducive environment for safe patient care and workplace safety
- Precepts, coaches and counsels staff in their work, patient safety and risk management activities as well as nursing students on posting
- Assumes the role of Staff Nurse in-charge/Deputy Nurse Manager
- Facilitates team dynamics and the smooth running of activities in the ward/dept
- Supports new initiates/lead changes implemented by the Nursing Administration
- Demonstrates competency in all core competencies and unit specific programs implemented by Nursing Administration
- Applies critical thinking skills and works closely with NM/NC to manage complex patient care and initiating referrals appropriately
- Initiates and participates in case conference between patient/family, physician and/or other health-care professionals on complex patient care management
