Legal Counsel, Risk and Compliance

The team delivers proactive, efficient and creative legal services that result in actionable solutions for its business partners. In carrying out this mission, the members of the team must act with the highest regard for ethical and professional principles as well as Secretlab’s corporate values.

The Legal Counsel, Risk and Compliance role requires interest and experience in policy and legal compliance matters. You must be up to the challenge of developing deep expertise in current and evolving legal matters globally, as this is a HQ role where you will be involved in developing policies that cover the company’s global operations in North America, Europe, North Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania.
- This is a good role for litigators looking to transition in-house.**Responsibilities**
- Support the Senior Legal Counsel, Risk and Compliance in designing, developing, embedding and maintaining the company’s code of business conduct and ethics within a supporting framework of policies, procedures and controls that are currently in development.
- Support the development of a compliance training programme for company staff and vendors, where applicable, and conducting such training.
- Support the development of a regular internal audit program to detect any areas of non-compliance, identify compliance vulnerabilities and to recommend corrective actions
- Serve as a central point of contact for resources and materials, knowledge aggregation, horizon scanning, regulatory trends/developments and risk mitigation.
- Identify risks and issues, suggest alternative solutions and risk management options both as part of discrete project escalations but also on larger projects.
- Support the management of whistleblowing hotlines.
- Support the conduct of internal investigations, as appropriate, and present investigative findings, recommend remediation, enforce implementation of remediation measures and audit to ensure that remediation measures are properly embedded into the organisation’s workflows.
- Support the company’s initiatives to implement a risk management framework.
- Advise on contentious matters and support the management of the companies’ litigation portfolio.
- Support the management of outside counsel as needed.
- Provide commercial contract drafting and negotiation support (including from scratch when called upon to do so) (~20% of capacity)
- Support strategic team priorities to deliver the most effective and efficient services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Strong academics and a minimum of 3-4 years experience at a top tier law firm or in a sophisticated in-house legal department.
- Must be a practising lawyer or, if in-house, must have obtained qualifications to practise law in a common law jurisdiction.
- Ability to digest and understand complex legal concepts and regulations from different jurisdictions and to then be able to explain them to others in a manner which is easily comprehensible
- Strong analytical/investigative skills and a proven work ethic with a desire to do more than is expected, including addressing issues and topics within and outside of your defined mandate.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
- A genuine interest in building authentic relationships across different departments and teams. The risk and compliance role is expected to be visible and constantly educate Secretlab colleagues about the risks and opportunities posed by building a trusted brand.
- Ability to travel to all countries and regions in which Secretlab conducts business.
- Position requires onsite work at the company's headquarters in Singapore.
