Welding Coordinator

**Job Purpose**
To work as a Welding Coordinator and lead the team of Welding Inspectors, who will assist (directly and indirectly) the Welding Coordinator to accomplish the following tasks and responsibilities:
**Job Accountabilities**
1 **Technical review -**
- Of the parent material(s) specification and welded joint properties;
- Of the joint location with relation to design requirements;
- Of quality and acceptance requirements for welds;
- Of the location, accessibility and sequence of welds, including accessibility for inspection and nondestructive testing;
- Of other welding requirements, e.g., batch testing of consumables, ferrite content of weld metal, ageing, hydrogen content, permanent backing, use of peening, surface finish, weld profile (as and when required).
- Of the corresponding and applicable WPS to the joint details following review of the shop drawing such as weld list/map.
2 **Sub-contracting**:
- Review suitability of any subcontractor for welding fabrication.
3 **Welding Personnel -**
- Coordinate and perform qualification of welders and welding operators, brazers and brazing operators.
**4. **Equipment -**
- Review and verify the suitability of the welding and associated equipment;
- Review and verify auxiliaries and equipment supply, identification and handling;
- Review the personal protective equipment and other safety equipment directly associated with welding/brazing;
- Equipment maintenance, verification and validation;
5. **Production Planning for**:
- appropriate procedure specifications for welding and allied processes;
- sequence in which the welds are to be made;
- environmental conditions (e.g. protection from wind, temperature and rain);
- allocation of qualified personnel;
- equipment for preheating and post-heat treatment, including temperature indicators;
- Arrangement for any production test (as and when Client required).
**6. **Qualification of the welding procedures and procedure specifications -**
- Review the applicable welding/brazing methods and qualification ranges required for the project
- Review the numbers of welding procedure specifications (WPS) required for the
project with respect to applicable codes and standards, the range of qualification necessary and arrange the qualifications accordingly
7. **Work instructions -**
- Prepare and issue the work instructions as required, and implement the work instructions in the project
**8. Welding consumables**
- Review compatibility of welding consumables, identify and estimate the needs,;
- Specify the delivery conditions and any supplementary requirements in the welding consumable purchasing specifications, including the type
- of welding consumable inspection document;
- Specify the storage, maintenance and handling of welding consumables.
**9. Materials -**
- Review and advice any supplementary requirements in the material purchasing specifications, including the type of inspection document for the material;
- Advise traceability, storage and handling of parent material
**10. **Inspection and testing before welding -**
- Confirm the suitability and validity of welders' and welding operators' qualification certificates;
- Confirm the suitability of the welding procedure specification;
- Confirm the identity of the parent material;
- Confirm the identity of welding consumables;
- Confirm joint preparation (e.g. shape and dimensions);
- Confirm fit-up, jigging and tacking;
- Confirm any special requirements in the welding procedure specification (e.g. prevention of distortion);
- Confirm the suitability of working conditions for welding, including the environment.
11. Confirm the following as per the applicable WPS/Specifications during welding Inspection and testing
- Essential welding parameters (e.g. welding current, arc voltage and travel speed);
- The preheating/inter-pass temperature;
- The cleaning and shape of runs and layers of weld metal;
- Back gouging;
- The welding sequence;
- The correct use and handling of welding consumables;
- Control of distortion;
- Any intermediate examination (e.g. checking dimensions
12. Confirm the following elements as per applicable procedures/specifications after welding
- The use of visual inspection (for completeness of welding, weld dimensions, shape);
- The use of non-destructive testing;
- The use of destructive testing;
- The form, shape, tolerance and dimensions of the construction;
- The results and records of post-operations (e.g. post-weld heat treatment, ageing);
- Weld defect rate is within the acceptable limits. In the event, if the defect rate exceeds the limit, analyze the defects, and take urgent remedial actions;
- Welders’ performances are within the acceptable limits. In the event of poor performance, necessary remedial actions shall be taken.
13. Non-conformance and corrective actions
- Review the rectifications and corrective actions against weld nonconformities;
