**Project Summary**:
- The Laboratory of Cell Therapy and Cancer Vaccine is seeking a highly motivated Research Officer to conduct research in the exciting, rapidly growing field of immuno-oncology. The project in question is multi-faceted, encompassing multiple sub-projects and collaborations that aim to investigate the roles of novel myeloid immune checkpoints in immunotherapy and anti-tumour immune responses in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our mission is to improve immunotherapy treatment regimens for HCC.
- The techniques / approaches involved include (but are not limited to): in vitro work with HCC cell lines, immune cells, and organoid models; in vivo work with HCC mouse models; human and mouse tissue sample processing; high parameter flow cytometry; bulk or single cell RNA-seq / CITE-seq; spatial technologies (e.g. multiplexed IHC / IF); extracellular vesicle isolation and small particle flow cytometry.-
- Roles & responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- 1. Plan, perform, and troubleshoot experiments, including experiments with mice
- 2. Analyse & interpret data (mínimally in Excel; ideally also with more advanced software)
- 3. Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, data and analysis
- 4. Manage the inventory, ordering, and receipt of reagents and consumables, including chemical and reagent preparation when necessary
- 5. Assist with the preparation of progress reports, presentations, posters, manuscripts, etc
- 6. Regular reporting to direct supervisor
- 7. Occasional journal club presentations

**Job Requirements**
- Essential qualifications:
- 1. Minimum undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree in a closely related life sciences field
- 2. Minimum 6 months of research experience (e.g. first year project, internships, previous work experience) in a closely related field
- 3. Good critical & analytical thinking skills, as well as problem solving skills
- 4. Eager to learn techniques, data analysis, and scientific thinking
- 5. Detail-oriented, observant and meticulous when conducting experiments and keeping records
- 6. Able to be pro-active, resourceful, independent, and help actively drive and support projects
- 7. Excellent time management and organisational skills
- 8. Excellent English communication skills (verbal, written, and listening & reading comprehension)
- 9. Hard working and dedicated, with a strong sense of personal responsibility and integrity
- 10. Able to work flexible hours, including late nights and weekends, when required (time off in lieu will be permitted in such instances)
- Preferred qualifications:
- 1. Applicants who are experienced and comfortable with handling mice, and willing to work extensively with mice, will be preferred
- 2. Skills and experience with any of the following would also be an advantage:
- mammalian cell culture (e.g. cancer cell lines, immune cells)
- in vitro cell-based assays
- in vitro immunology assays
- multi-colour flow cytometry
- bioinformatics analysis (e.g. with R) and/or statistics
- molecular and cell biology techniques
- functional genomics or other “-omics” / “-seq” techniques
- immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence
- confocal microscopy
