Deputy Laboratory Operations Manager

1. To oversee the operations of the site laboratory in the absence of the Laboratory Operations Manager.
2. Assist the Lab Operations Manager in managing the organizational and operational functions of the clinical laboratory and pathological services.

To oversee the operations of the site laboratory in the absence of the Laboratory Operations Manager.
- Assist the Lab Operations Manager in managing the organizational and operational functions of the clinical laboratory and pathological services by:

- Recommending the type and number of equipment to be purchased in order to carry out the necessary tests.
- Participating in the selection and evaluation of equipment. e Preparing operating and labour budgets for the laboratory.
- Directing regular maintenance and performance checks on all instruments and equipment.
- Recommending technical methods, instruments to be used and the necessary reagents.
- Preparing staff monthly duty rosters, including specific work assignments for all staff working in the laboratory.
- Maintain compliance with all licensing / accreditation agency guidelines.
- Ensure assigned work is done promptly, efficiently, accurately, and comply with quality standards.
- Investigating new technical procedures and performing correlation studies on new equipment and procedures.
- Reviewing and revising policies / procedures / work instruction manuals to ensure completeness and keeping up with technological changes and service quality.
- Maintaining proper inventory levels of reagents and supplies to achieve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assisting in and supporting flexible staffing requirements in the department, including shift duties.
- Provide adequate training of all personnel in the section including conducting in-service lectures / continuing medical education.
- Reviewing and documenting the previous day’s work testing site pending list, to include investigation of pending tests, abnormal results and/or unusual occurrence.
- Perform secondary review of weekly and monthly quality control results.
- Maintaining a current and complete capital equipment inventory for the section.
- Ensuring routine and preventive maintenance for all instruments and equipment in the section, as well as appropriate documentation of such maintenance.
- Ensure environmental conditions meet safety regulatory requirements.
- Achieve good/acceptable performance in external proficiency testing.
- Participating in the hospital quality assurance initiatives.
- Developing rapport with laboratory business office, nursing and other para-medical personnel, as well as with other hospital departments.
- Any other duties as assigned from time to time by management.

Key Performance Indicators
- Target mínimal error for verified results of the section (ECR).
- Meeting laboratory test turnaround time (TAT).
- Frequency of facilitating continuing medical education and training session (CME).
- Maintenance of equipment service and preventive maintenance documentation to minimize equipment downtime.
- Staff training and succession planning.
- Meet or exceed lab site operational & budget (EBITA).
- Meet all licensing and accreditation requirements.
- Meet or exceed laboratory site target Patient Satisfaction Survey (PSS).
- Ensure good service is rendered to patients and other stake holders in parkway labs or hospitals.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Professional / Educational Qualifications
- Recognized Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent.
- Management training, experience or equivalent. Skills & Knowledge
- At least 8 years in a related area in the medical laboratory.
- Technical competency and knowledge of laboratory accreditations.
- Possesses organizational, management and people skills.
