Primary School Teaching Assistant

**UWCSEA East** has a vacancy for a Primary School Teaching Assistant to join the team.

Reporting to the Primary School Leadership Team, the teaching assistant (TA) will assist in the delivery of the learning programme within the classroom environment and other settings as directed by the teacher and/or Head of Grade / Department.
- This is a full-time position and may be offered as a one-year contract._

**Main Responsibilities**
- **Pre-lesson Support**_
- Support students during break times as well as arrival and departure as required.
- Assist in planning, preparation and the use of specialist materials, strategies, and resources.
- **During Lesson Support**_
- Engage in all aspects of student learning and curriculum, including programme delivery, goal setting and assessment.
- Positively and proactively deliver targeted support to students with diverse learning profiles within the classroom environment and other school settings.
- Work with the students individually or in a small group setting; supervising activities assigned by the teacher.
- Support and fully engage in all 5 elements of the UWCSEA programme, including activities, service and outdoor education including full participation in residential camps.
- **Documentation**_
- Monitor and record student progress, wellbeing and behaviour in an effort to better meet students’ needs and goals.
- Observe students and take anecdotal notes to inform planning of appropriate interventions, and next steps.
- Participate in professional conversations to share above documentation.

- Build positive, productive relationships with the students to support their engagement and learning, including building opportunities to draw on student interests and strengths within the learning programme.

- Maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of individual/family circumstances.

- Use initiative to take on additional responsibilities as and when required.
- Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs with similar levels of responsibility and complexity to the assigned job grade as may be reasonably requested by the line manager and/or the College.

**Person Specifications**
- Qualification in relevant fields of study is highly desirable
- Essential: Must be passionate about working with chil dren ag ed 4 - 1 1 to positively impact their learning, demonstrating a caring and supportive approach
- Experience in school settings essential: at least 2 years of relevant experience in similar capacity with chil dren ag ed 4 - 1 1 years old
- Proficient with technology is essential, including Google platforms, Gmail and Google calendar and a working knowledge of Mac
- A willingness to learn and a commitment to ongoing professional learning is essential to keep up to date and continue to improve own practice
- Essential: Physically fit and able to work with students including working on the floor with students, kneeling, supervising student up and down the stairs, outdoor duties, and accompanying students on outdoor activities, including off campus and multiple overnight camps
- Experience working in play based environments would be advantageous
- Experience working with students with additional needs would be highly advantageous
- Experience working with language learners for whom English is an additional language.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills in both written and spoken English.
- Evidence of ability to work cohesively in a team based environment as well as independently
- Must be flexible, willing and able to adapt and change at short notice in response to student and school needs. We have the amazing opportunity to work with chil dren and that can be unpredictable
