Singapore MERANTI POWER PTE. LTD. Full time

Meranti Power Pte Ltd (“ **MP**”), a fully owned subsidiary of Energy Market Authority, is currently in the final phase of the construction of its power station and will commence operation within the year. We are inviting applicants for the position of Legal Officer who shall report to the Head, Legal to support the Legal department management of its contractual obligations post construction, and in its daily operation. The scope and requirements are as follows:
**Main Responsibilities**:

- Provide timely and robust legal advice and solutions on all commercial matters, compliance issues, and on litigation and disputes.
- Assist to draft, review and advise team on a wide variety of contracts (sales and purchase contracts or agreement) and company functions (HR, IT, Finance)
- Provide Corporate Secretariat duties where required
- Support in general corporate secretarial, administrative and legal support duties as assigned by Head of Legal

**Requirements**:

- Possess a law degree from a recognised institute with 2 to 5 years of post-qualification experience. Experience in construction or in energy, or being called to the Singapore Bar will be an advantage.
- Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills, particularly in construction, engineering, or infrastructure projects.
- Excellent writing skills and a good command of spoken English.
- Meticulous and attention to detail with the ability to review and analyze complex contracts, provide commercially sound advice, and convey such advice to stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, results focused and willing to work with multiple stakeholders including management, employees contractors, suppliers and authorities.
- Adaptable and proactive, and willing to take on responsibilities beyond the defined scope when needed in a small corporate setup.
- Willing to work in construction site office during construction stage on Jurong Island and subsequently on Jurong Island itself.

Please note:
Following the interview, applicants will be asked to submit a legal writing sample that should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to analyse legal issues, provide sound legal advice, and convey such advice to non-legally trained stakeholders. This writing sample:

- should showcase applicant legal reasoning, analytical skills, drafting proficiency, and style of communication;
- should be no longer that three (3) pages;
- should preferably relate to construction law, contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, or dispute resolution, though well-structured general legal writing samples will also be considered;
- should be substantially the applicant’s own work, or should indicate which portions of the writing sample is such; and
- should not be template-based work or have been heavily edited by colleagues.
