Theater Specialist

This position is hired as a technical theater professional. Part of the job is to help educate and train students and staff in the use of equipment, as well as operate and maintain equipment in the theater venues.

**Equipment**:

- Serve as Video Director/Switcher to execute Video capture of events in a multi-camera setup.
- Pre
- and Post-Production of event videos
- Live Broadcast and Streaming of events
- Duplication and Distribution of Video content to stakeholders
- Assist with other staff to supervise use of and maintain theater video, sound, light, and electronic equipment.
- Assist with the installation and execution of video, sound, lighting, rigging designs.
- Assist with all video, sound, lighting, and rigging work calls in departmental performance and training spaces.
- Help maintain inventory, arrange for the replacement of theater lighting, sound, video, and stage consumables, and order materials. Monitor and maintain records of equipment usage.
- Keep current computer drawings and paperwork (SOPs) for systems in each venue.
- Assist with check out and in of props and costumes.

**Production**:

- Attend technical rehearsals, all load-ins, and strikes as scheduled.
- Work with production team to help with the construction of sets as scheduled.
- Work with the directors as scheduled to determine their needs relating to video production, lighting, sound, costume, or make-up design.
- Serve as video director for theatrical, dance, and music productions at SAS. Mentor and work with student technicians to teach principles and practice of design, through practice.
- Assist Fine Arts teachers, Theater Coordinator, Principals with technical needs for their daytime performances, meetings, assemblies, and ceremonies.
- Work with technical needs of all performances, meetings, assemblies, and ceremonies that are in the school day and cross over into the evening.
- Assist Fine Arts Staff and Theater Coordinator in maintaining props and costumes in an orderly fashion in the Prop, Costume, and Scenes Props room.
- Ensure that technical booths are kept organized and orderly.
- Ensure that video files are stored and organized in Google drive under theater ownership, with current shows organized on local storage, and backed up to Google drive..

**Research and Planning**:

- Research and help implement new systems technology in all areas of theater.
- Maintain knowledge of current equipment and practices in theatrical equipment and video practice.
- Oversee the design and/or implementation of special electronic effects and equipment for theater productions.
- Assist in purchasing and budget functions, to include recommending new equipment acquisitions, and working with vendors for purchasing, upkeep, and maintenance.

**Safety**:

- Ensure daily cleanup and return of all tool, equipment, and materials after tech sessions.
- Upkeep of the shop and performance spaces as requested by the Theater Coordinator.
- Ensure that a safe and orderly work environment is maintained.
- Ensure safety guidelines at all times.
- Use safety equipment provided.
- In helping with security, lock areas and theaters after tech sessions to ensure the security of the spaces, materials, and equipment therein.
- Ensure appropriate fire doors are unlocked during all performances, meetings, and assemblies, and ceremonies.
- Ensure spaces are locked after use.

**Clubs**:

- Work with and/or assist faculty in presenting workshops in theater, video, sound design, lighting design, and stagecraft.
- Help supervise students in the use of video, sound, stage lighting, and rigging equipment, and proper theatrical procedures.
- Help supervise students in hands-on construction of theatrical scenery for production.
- Learn to use, and instruct faculty and students in proper usage of, software for video, sound, lighting design, and scene design.
- Help schedule and supervise student crews; video, sound, lighting, rigging, and stage for performances, meetings, assemblies, and ceremonies.
- Perform other duties or appropriate requests as assigned by Theater Coordinator or Director Student Life & Co-Curricular Programs.

**Other Duties**:

- Maintain all records, correspondence, etc. in a well-organized and accessible manner.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all school and office records.
- Enforce and ensure compliance with Singapore American School’s regulations pertaining to security, safety, and proper usage of school property.
- Ensure compliance with all school policies and procedures as related to the job responsibilities for this position.
- Relate courteously and effectively with students, parents, staff, government personnel, and community members as necessary.
