Our client is a science-based foodtech start-up that aims to enable companies and consumers to fully trust in the provenance and safety of all food. We help growers and companies increase transparency and assure authenticity.

As the R&D lead, you will have strategic responsibility for defining and implementing the research, product development, and production strategy to grow the company. You will take the company from MVP to a multi-million tags/year operation.

You are a proven science manager with a proven track record in the biotech, food or food ingredient industry. You will lead all product development aspects of Natural Trace and report to one of the Co-Founders. You will achieve hands-on goals across all areas of DNA based product development (research, process and end-product development) together with research and ecosystem partners, and a team that you will build over time.

Your main responsibility includes:
**Drive innovation & product development**
- Shape and execute the product development roadmap
- Develop patented technology into products
- Contribute to further develop and expand IP protection of the core technology
- Recruit the core research & product development team

**Ensure safe and high-quality operations**
- Manage collaboration with Co-manufacturers
- Plan and set-up operations facility to manufacture tags, supported by our advisory board
- Ensure highest degree of food safety and product consistency (FSSC 22000)
- Set up lab facility to read out tags from food products, supported by our advisory board
- Reach accreditation of methods to food industry standards

- Inspire your team and external stakeholders as a visionary leader

**Your professional profile includes**:

- Bachelors or Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Food Technology, or Food Engineering
- 5-10 years’ experience in science-focused function in biotech or foodtech.
- Solid knowledge of sequencing technologies. NGS experience desirable.
- Solid track record in defining, developing, and producing new products successfully
- Previous experience in a start-up environment is desirable
