Position**:Staff Nurse (ECT)**

The Staff Nurse is responsible to provide quality-nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to meet the needs of the patients, including educating patients and families on mental health issues.

The Staff Nurse is also responsible for maintaining the standards for professional nursing practice and working cooperatively with the other members of the healthcare team to provide care that is comprehensive, integrated and cost-effective.

**Responsibilities**:
The Staff Nurse will maintain the standard of nursing practice, and implement policies and procedures of the Nursing Department, Ambulatory Services and the hospital through:
1. Assesses, Triage and identifies the vulnerable and patients with high-risk conditions so that they will be attended to promptly
- Assists and performs in admission procedure and nursing treatment when requires.
- Assesses patient’s mental and physical status and notifies the doctor when there are aberrations or improvement in patient’s condition.
- Writes accurate, clear and specific nursing care assessments, interventions and patient care outcome for continuity of care.
- Practices strict infection control standards in the delivery of patient care.

2. Administers medication, performs treatment and attends to other medical orders according to hospital policy
- Demonstrates knowledge of medication action, mode of administration, side effects and contraindications for commonly used psychiatric and medical medication. Follows policies and procedures when administering medications and when performing treatment.

3. Supports the patient to participate in prescribed treatment plans
- Promotes and demonstrates therapeutic nurse patient relationship in all patient transactions.
- Monitors and encourage compliance to follow-up and treatment regime.
- Documents and communicates patient’s responses and the effectiveness of nursing interventions accurately.
- Evaluates patient’s experiences and outcome of interventions and treatment modalities and makes recommendations to review or modify treatment plan as needed.
- Performs Venipuncture, Electrocardiogram(ECG) and nursing procedures when require.

4. Participates in Neuro-stimulation treatments - Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) / Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) to maintain high quality nursing care for patients
- Plans, co-ordinates and facilitates ECT and rTMS treatment in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide smooth operations of the services.
- Functions as a clinical nursing resource to all members of the health care team and provides nursing contributions on patient care management matters.
- Demonstrates competence in skills, knowledge and attitude in the care of patients undergoing ECT and rTMS.
- Performs close monitoring of patients undergoing pre ECT, during ECT procedures and post ECT monitoring. Notifies the doctor when there are aberrations in patient’s condition.
- Conducts ECT competency training and training for new staff attached to Neurostimulation services.
- Takes opportunities to improve delivery of care through participating in nursing research, clinical improvement projects or quality improvement initiatives.
- Provides education to outpatients and their family members on ECT and rTMS Practice strict infection control standards in the delivery of patient care.

5. Seeks information from other resources for incorporation in assessment and treatment plans
- Collaborates with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in the management of patients. Increases knowledge of nursing care at SOC through continuing education, clinical supervision and keeps pace with professional trends and practices and Information Technology (IT).

6. Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic modalities that can be used to help patient deal with his/her health problems and provides health teaching to patients and their families as appropriate.

7. Assists in promoting a conducive and collegial work environment that is motivating, challenging and professionally satisfying.

8. Participates in infection control measures

9. Fulfils other general and professional obligations

**Requirements**:
**Educational and Professional Requirements**
- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Must be registered with Singapore Nursing Board
- No work experience required

**Personal Skills**
- Possess good interpersonal, communication, writing & IT skills
- Familiar with healthcare environment
- Able to work independently with good decision-making skills
