Process Safety Engineer

Process Safety Professionals play a vital role in identifying, assessing, and then systemically minimizing risks in our assets by designing and enhancing design integrity, technical integrity, operational integrity, and integrity leadership principles.

Process Safety Engineers’ competencies range from Major Hazard Management, Facility Siting, Consequence Modelling, Risk Assessment and Management, Fire Safety Engineering, Reactive Hazards Management, Quantitative Risk Studies, Hazard, and Effect Management, Safeguarding and Relief Systems, Safety System Design, Management of Change, Investigation and Competency Assurance.

**What’s the role?**

As Process Safety Engineer, your key accountabilities include the following:

- Provide Process Safety support and assurance to site to ensure safe operation and ensure soundness of process engineering and process integrity of plant changes / projects from a process safety aspect.
- Drive site’s Process Safety Management Programs.
- Support operations, engineering, maintenance, and other disciplines as necessary to ensure robustness of barriers, thorough implementation of interim measures etc.
- Drive maximization of value from Process Safety assessments and contribute to improvement initiatives.
- Lead assessment to ensure clear and accurate representation of the design details, status of hardware, documentation, and operational practice.
- Provide timely communication and coordination of follow-up actions with site action parties.
- Drive timely completion of all recommendations from Process Safety assessments per intent, including supporting the solution development. Provides assurance on action closure.
- Drive Management of Change and site’s leak management program.
- Lead Safety Cases development/ updates per authority’s directions and guidelines; including yearly regulatory verification visits.
- Provide coaching to other team members, identify process safety improvement opportunities.
- General expectations:

- To contribute to the continuous improvement of the operational safety, operational reliability, and unit performance in your area of responsibility.
- Responsible for working in a safe manner and demonstrating a personal commitment to both personal and process safety.
- Responsible for working with and growing with the system/ process.
- Ensure technical assurance and technical integrity of the proposed changes by leading multi-disciplinary team reviews, challenge sessions, etc.
- Contribute to multifunctional teams in site wide initiatives, such as participation in unit shutdown preparation and coordination.

**What we need from you**

We are keen to speak to professionals with the following:

- Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in Process Safety/ Engineering.
- Extensive experience with process safety methodologies (e.g. HAZOP, QRA, dispersion modelling etc.).
- Experience working in manufacturing environment.
