Singapore Rakuten Asia Pte Ltd Full time

Rakuten Asia is seeking a talented and flexible privacy counsel to advise the company on a range of privacy, data protection and security-related legal and compliance initiatives in the APAC region. The role involves advising clients on various legal risks and obligations under global privacy laws and driving high-profile cross-functional initiatives across the business involving a variety of complex legal and/or regulatory issues. The privacy counsel dual-reports to the General Manager of Legal Department in Rakuten Asia and Global Privacy Officer of Rakuten Group, Inc., the headquarter of Rakuten Group in Japan and supports the implementation of the privacy strategy in the region. This requires the ability to both work independently and with large multi-stakeholder teams. We are looking for someone with sharp analytical and communication skills, who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, and has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment, as well as strategic thinking.

**Responsibilities**
- Assist product owners in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions, and other related guidelines on product features,
- Evaluate the impact of legislative, regulatory, legal developments and industry proposals involving privacy and security across Rakuten's services and group companies within the APAC region,
- Supports high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with stakeholders across the business,
- Coordinate with Rakuten’s Global Privacy Office and support the implementation of global privacy policies regionally,
- Monitor business developments and support privacy compliance within the region,
- Manage and participate in internal privacy compliance programs and processes to ensure Rakuten meets its obligations under those programs.

**Minimum Qualification**
- 3+ years of legal experience preferred, including at a law firm and/or prior in-house experience with internet or technology companies (litigation, regulatory, product counseling or operational privacy experience will be considered)
- Deep understanding of applicable privacy laws within the region and solid experience in privacy implementation and compliance
- Bachelor's degree in legal, Master preferred
- Fluency in English and any local language.
- Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment as an [KK|R4] individual contributor
- Ability to work flexible and adapt to the business needs and navigate through the different stakeholder’s interest

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially those relevant for ecommerce, ad tech and internet companies
- Demonstrated expertise in privacy and data issues arising in one or more privacy areas, such as advertising, B2C products, data analytics and artificial intelligence, or privacy program implementation/management
- Relevant privacy certifications, such as CIPP/E or CIPP/A

**Salary**: Up to $10,000.00 per month
