The Research Fellow will work on the assigned research projects and support the centre activities at COLE. The Research Fellow is expected to work with the PI and other team members on ongoing research projects on optics, especially in the areas of Nanoscale Optics and Biomedical Optics.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform research in Nanoscale Optics and Biomedical Optics and develop novel approaches to biomedical imaging, optical engineering and instrumentation
- Conduct and coordinate research within the centre in line with its research strategy under the supervision of the PI
- Manage assigned research projects in a team-based, cross-functional research environment, which include mentoring students and working with other researchers, and technical and other support staff
- Publish research outcomes in appropriate journals of international standing; Attend and present research findings and papers at academic meetings, and to contribute to the external visibility of the Centre
- Draft research reports for the PI and undertake specific roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the PI.
- Attend meetings and to participate (where necessary) in other committees and working groups
- Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of the research work

Job Requirements:

- PhD degree in Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics or a related discipline with optics background
- Previous experience in experimental optics, optical engineering and nanotechnology is desirable
- Expertise in laser systems, optical instrumentation and image processing would be an advantage
- Good simulation, programming, and image processing skills (e.g. Zemax, TracePro, Virtual Lab, OSLO, MATLAB, Python, ImageJ) would be an advantage
- Proven publication record will be an advantage
