**Job Summary**:
This role will involve underwriting a complex book of marine business across Asia Pacific. In terms of portfolio management, the role will involve, amongst other duties, managing risk accumulations and tracking performance against budget to ensure we achieve our targets. You will be responsible for business development both locally and across the Asia Pacific region.

You will utilise the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals, implementing proper underwriting disciplines/guidelines, and marketing / servicing existing and potential clients. You will also be responsible for the administration and monitoring of underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, as well as rating rules and models.

In addition, you will be required to take case referrals from distribution channel underwriters, and provide technical guidance, assistance and training to lower level associates.

**Job Duties and Competencies**:

- Assist with the development and agreement of strategies for the Asia Pacific marine portfolio, agreeing the risk appetite, underwriting philosophy and pricing strategy in order to achieve the agreed business goals and targets
- Execute approved marine business plan to establish and develop balanced and diverse book of business in accordance with underwriting guidelines
- Assist with the performance management of the Asia Pacific marine portfolio through compliance controls, accumulation monitoring, performance monitoring, cycle management and portfolio forecasting to ensure agreed targets
- Ensure long term development of the portfolio through the management of product development based on portfolio performance, market intelligence, R&D insight, legal development and emerging risks
- Actively contribute to the development of segment and local customer proposition and associated sales planning, bringing knowledge and insight of the market and its risks, proactively managing and identifying opportunities to increase penetration of existing customers and /or expand the business mix
- Interact with existing and prospective clients, brokers, re-insurers and other business partners in order to expand existing portfolio of business by developing existing relationships and new prospective clients
- Provide expert advice, guidance and coaching to less qualified and/or experienced colleagues to address technical referrals and raise standards and expertise across the technical community
- Lead and /or contribute to technical audits and peer review processes as required
- Ensure internal systems and processes are in place and working effectively to support the business needs
- Liaise with brokers, internal auditors, Claims, Actuarial, Accounting, IT and Legal departments as appropriate
- Maintain underwriting files in an orderly manner and in accordance with underwriting guidelines, including maintenance of all reporting systems for submissions and bound accounts, rate change modelling, bound account listing, submission log and reports as may be developed

**Qualifications**
- Significant experience in underwriting and/or broking experience in marine cargo and other related marine classes of business
- Broad span of knowledge of marine cargo insurance and reinsurance, its segments, dynamics and strategies
- Experience and / or strong interest in portfolio and team management
- Thorough technical understanding of clauses, policy wordings and pricing mechanisms
- Strong business planning skills and negotiation skills with a high level of customer and commercial awareness
- Self-starter, who can work independently while also being able to work in conjunction with other functional departments
- Excellent communication, relationship building and negotiation skills
- Competent in Microsoft Office and relevant insurance platforms
- Ability and willingness to work outside normal office hours and travel as required
