Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL) is the leading shipping company connecting Asia, Australia and NZ to the Pacific. We are experiencing a period of significant growth, building capacity and capability across our network. We operate 9 containerships, moving +240k TEU across various ports in 16 countries, in partnership with Maersk, CMA/ANL and PIL. NPDL is part of The Wonderful Company headquartered in the USA (including Fiji Water).
**Job Description**:
You will be part of our Operations team with overall responsibility for Vessel Scheduling and Vessel Planning. You will build robust vessel scheduling processes and deliver the most accurate outcomes by working closely with the various NPDL teams, ports, partner lines and across our agency network. In addition, you will maximise vessel capacity utilization and port operations efficiencies, while ensuring the safety of our crews and integrity of our vessels.
**What you will be doing**:
**Scheduling**:
- Overall responsibility for the NPDL vessel scheduling processes, working in close coordination with the various NPDL teams, partner shipping lines, ports and others to ensure the most accurate outcomes.
- Identify schedule conflicts (port congestion, missed connections, etc.) and determine contingency options, coordinating implementation with all key teams both in NZ and overseas.
- Constant focus on improving vessel schedule integrity, working closely with the various NPDL teams in determining the optimal service vs cost scenarios / models.
- Manage vessel chartering processes, both for NPDL and 3rd party vessels.
- Manage and report on critical vessel schedule KPIs, including reliability, port productivity, etc.
**Vessel Planning**:
- Overall responsibility for the NPDL vessel planning team and associated people management processes.
- Ensure the most efficient vessel planning outcomes, following best in class vessel planning processes, while protecting our crews and the integrity of our vessels. Key focus on ensuring full compliance with international and local DG regulations.
- Scenario modelling, working closely with the various team in identifying options to reduce costs and improve port efficiencies.
- Performance reporting of vessel capacity utilization, restows and other key metrics associated with vessel planning.
**Qualifications**:
**Here’s what you’ll bring to the table**:
- Proven experience in a similar operational management position within the container shipping industry is a must.
- Strong problem solving, analytical skills and commercial acumen, able to identify and implement options to reduce cost and/or improve performance across our various shipping services.
- Leadership experience is essential, managing a decentralized direct team and influencing indirect teams in a positive way.
- Proven strong communication skills ensuring clear, direct and appropriate communication at multiple organizational levels and geographies.
- Technology savvy, identifying and driving improvement opportunities across the end-to-end processes via best-in-class systems.
- Experienced in the use of Vessel Scheduling and Vessel Planning systems (e.g. Navis Stowman), as well as strong Excel and MS Office Suite experience.
Additional Information
**About the Role**:
This role will preferably be based in Parnell / Auckland (but we can consider other options in NZ or Singapore). There will be ad-hoc international travel required, including ANZ and the Pacific.
As you have worked in shipping in the past, you will know a level of flexibility is required at times to work extended hours including weekends, public holidays, etc.
If you are someone with strong Vessel Planning & Scheduling skills, who would like to shape the direction of a fast-growing shipping company, this is the role for you.
In return we offer a competitive benefits package, a challenging and stimulating environment, a hybrid working model (office + home) and great opportunities for personal growth.
