Research Fellow

The Research fellow is required to perform detailed theoretical quantum materials research in quantum geometrical materials and correlated matter with a particular focus on superconducting materials and moiré matter. The research fellow will support the group’s efforts in understand and predicting new electronic and opto-electronic behavior with an emphasis on understanding the intertwining of quantum geometry, non-reciprocal behavior, and correlations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report to the PI on their analytical and numerical calculations on the electronic and opto-electronic properties of quantum geometric and correlated matter.- Responsible for formulating analytical formalism and numerical calculations in describing non-reciprocal transport and opto-electronics in correlated systems, specifically in superconductors and in non-reciprocal behavior such as the superconducting diode effect as well as other highly nonlinear responses.- Perform theoretical quantum materials research in quantum geometrical materials and correlated matter with a focus on superconducting materials and their nonreciprocal responses as well as the intertwining with other broken symmetry phases that include magnets.- Write and implement numerical code to evaluate their quantum responses, specifically in moiré quantum matter such as twisted bilayer graphene and twisted moiré heterostructures.- Effectively collaborate with experimentalists- Write academic research articles and, if assigned, be able to present research work at scientific conferences and meetings- Formulate effective models to test new descriptions of quantum materials response, as well as formulate means of characterizing and establishing correlated states in moiré materials including that of twisted systems such as twisted bilayer graphene or twisted moiré TMD heterostructures.- Responsible for writing and explaining such findings in both a written context (e.g., academic journal papers) as well as in academic talks, as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- PhD in Physics- Strong ability and skills in theoretical condensed matter tools that include response theory and tools both perturbative as well as non-perturbative in describing responses of superconductors with a focus on nonreciprocal responses such as the superconducting diode effect- Skills in formulating new theoretical descriptions of quantum phenomena as well as experience in developing and implementing effective electronic models of a range of quantum matter, specifically in moiré quantum matter.- Track record of publications in nonreciprocal superconductor responses, twisted moiré systems, and quantum geometric quantities.
